Abstract: In the process described, the oil/gas-containing subterranean formations are contacted with a selected fluoro-surfactant as a stimulant. A particularly preferred stimulant consists essentially of the said fluoro-surfactants and of non-fluorinated, nonionic surfactants from the group of the alkoxypolyethylene glycol ethers and from the group of the alkylphenoxypolyethylene glycol ethers, the three components being present in a weight ratio of preferably about 1:1:1.

Use of the ammonium salt gives the compounds in betaine form. Alkali metal salt products can be converted to the betaine form by treatment with an acid to a suitable pH. The ammonium salt of maleic acid semiamide is prepared from maleic anhydride and gaseous NH 3 in chloroform.
