The subject-matter of this Specification is identical with that of Specification 1,154,111, but the claims are directed to character selecting mechanism in which the interposers associated with keylevers are first moved along an axis normal to the longitudinal axis of the interposers to a character selecting position in which they are latched by latching members and are subsequently restored by a cyclically operable bail after they have been moved along a second axis which is parallel to the longitudinal axis.
