Abstract: A spread-spectrum CDMA interference canceler for reducing interference in a DS/CDMA receiver having N chip-code channels. The interference canceler includes a plurality of correlators, a plurality of spread-spectrum-processi ng circuits, subtracting circuits, and channel correlators. Using a plurality o f chip- code signals generated from chip codeword signal generators, the correlators despreads the spread-spectrum CDMA signal as a plurality of despread signals . The plurality of spread-spectrum-processing circuits uses a timed version of the plurality of chip-code signals generated from the delay devices, for spread- spectrum processing the plurality of despread signals. For recovering a code channel using an i th chip-code-signal, the subtracting circuits subtracts from the spread-spectrum CDMA signal, each of the N-1 spread-spectrum-processed- despread signals thereby generating a subtracted signal. The channel- correlator despreads the subtracted signal.

Abstract: A phased array spread spectrum system for maximizing signal strength of a spread-spectrum signal with multipath through the use of a first RF/IF section 21, a second RF/IF section 22, a first digital delay device 27, a second digital delay device 28, a first summer 29, a second summer 30, a despreader 31, a magnitude device 32, a shift register 33, and a comparator 34. The first RF/IF section 21 receives a plurality of spread-spectrum signals and the second RF/IF section 22 receives a plurality of phased versions of the plurality of spread-spectrum signals. The first and second digital delay devices 27, 28 delay the received plurality of spread-spectrum signals with respect to the plurality of phased versions of the plurality of spread-spectrum signals by a plurality of delays. The first and second summers 29, 30 combine the delayed spread-spectrum signals and the plurality of phased versions of the plurality of spread-spectrum signals as a plurality of combined signals. The despreader 31 despreads the plurality of combined signals as a plurality of despread signals. The magnitude device 32 generates a plurality of magnitude values from the plurality of despread signals. The shift register 33 stores a plurality of previous-magnitude values previously generated by the magnitude device 32 and a plurality of present magnitude values presently generated by the magnitude device 32. The comparator 34 compares the previous-magnitude values and the present-magnitude values and, responsive to the comparison, outputs a plurality of comparison signals. The first and second digital delay devices 27, 28 respond to the plurality of comparison signals by lengthening or shortening the plurality of delays.

Abstract: A spread-spectrum transmitter and receiver using code division multiple access with time division multiple access technology for spread-spectrum communications. At a base station, a spread-spectrum transmitter includes a multiplexer for time multiplexing a synchronization-code signal and a plurality of data signals, which may be encoded as a plurality-encoded data signals, to generate a time-multiplexed signal. A chip-code generator generates a chip-code signal which is modulo added with the time-multiplexed signal by an EXCLUSIVE-OR gate to generate a spread-spectrum-time-multiplexed signal. A transmitter transmits the spread-spectrum-time-multiplexed signal over a communications channel. A spread-spectrum receiver at the base station processes a plurality of spread-spectrum signals, received from a plurality of remote units in as time division sequence of spread-spectrum signals, using a despreader circuit to generate a time-division signal. A demultiplexer demultiplexes the time-division signal as a plurality of data signals or as a plurality of privacy-encoded data signals. A remote unit, which may be a handset, includes a despreader circuit for despreading the spread-spectrum-time-multiplexed signal as a time-multiplexed signal. A synchronization-code matched filter detects the synchronization-code signal embedded in the time-multiplexed signal and thereby generates a timing signal. A controller uses the timing signal to generate a control signal. The control signal controls a transmit-receive switch for switching an antenna between the despreader circuit to the transmitter at the remote unit.

The EXCLUSIVE-OR gate (103) spread-spectrum process message data with the message-chip-code signal to generate a spread-spectrum signal. The transmitter (107) transmits the combined generic-chip-code signal and spread-spectrum signal, on a carrier signal (108) over the communications channel as a spread-spectrum-communications signal. The receiver-generic-chip-code generator (121) generates a replica of the generic-chip-code signal. The generic mixer (123) recovers the carrier signal from the spread-spectrum-communications signal. The receiver-message-chip-code generator (122) generates a replica of the message-chip-code signal. The receiver-message mixer (124) despreads the spread-spectrum-communications signal as a modulated-data signal. The tracking and acquisition circuit (121) uses the recovered carrier signal for synchronizing the replicas of the generic-chip-code signal to the recovered carrier signal. The synchronous detector (139) synchronously demodulates the modulated-data signal as received data.
