    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent durability and satd. magnetic flux density (Bs) by forming recessed parts on the front surface of a base film and depositing a magnetic metal by evaporation thereon and a production method therefor. CONSTITUTION: The base film 1 is used as the base of the magnetic recording medium of a vapor deposition type and the recessed parts 2 are formed by ion beam etching on its front surface. Columns 3, 3' of a magnetic layer where the columns 3' varying in length are formed at places on the surface of the base film having such recessed parts 2 formed. Thereby, the bondability of the base film 1 and the columns 3, 3' is improved and the packing property of the metal crystal is improved and, therefore, the durability and Bs are improved. Further, the recessed parts are formed on the front surface of the magnetic layer as well and, therefore, the magnetic recording medium having a small coefft. of friction and good traveling stability is obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having improved durability and increased saturation magnetic flux density by forming 1st and 2nd magnetic layers each having a columnar structure grown in a required direction by vapor deposition on a base film. CONSTITUTION: A 1st magnetic layer 2 having a columnar structure grown at a right angle to the surface of a base film 1 is formed by vapor deposition on the base film 1. A 2nd magnetic layer 3 having a columnar structure grown in an oblique direction to the growth direction of the columnar structure of the layer 2 is then formed by vapor deposition on the layer 2. The packing property of the columns is improved, the bonding property of the magnetic layers to the base film is also improved and the objective magnetic recording medium having high durability and high saturation magnetic flux density is obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To enhance the magnetic characteristics by bringing a intensively heated body made of a high melting point material having high specific heat into contact with a gas and ionizing atoms in the gas when an iron based magnetic layer is formed as a continuous magnetic body while introducing a gas containing at least one of nitrogen, oxygen and carbon gases. CONSTITUTION: Iron is placed in a crucible 6 and a vacuum chamber 1 is evacuated before an electron beam is projected to the iron from an electron gun 7 in order to fuse and evaporate the iron. An electron beam is also projected from an electron gun 12 to a body 10 having high specific heat while introducing nitrogen gas through a ventilation nozzle 13 toward the body 10 thus generating plasma. A PET base film 2 is then fed from a winding roll 3 to a rewinding roll 4. Subsequently, a DLC layer is formed on the PET film 2 by ECR plasma CVD in another chamber and a fluorine based lubricant is applied onto the protective film and an Al back coat layer is formed on the rear side by vacuum deposition.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a thin film perpendicular magnetic recording medium having satisfactory overwriting characteristics, suppressing demagnetization and capable of ensuring high output. CONSTITUTION: This perpendicular magnetic recording medium has a three- layered structure and has a 1st magnetic layer 2 having a perpendicular columnar structure formed on the base film 1, a 2nd magnetic layer 3 having a diagonal columnar structure formed on the 1st magnetic layer 2 and a 3rd magnetic layer 4 having a perpendicular columnar structure formed on the 2nd magnetic layer 3. The angle 9 of the columns of the diagonal columnar structure of the 2nd magnetic layer 3 is within the range of 30-70 deg. and an undercoat layer of a soft magnetic material is preferably interposed between the base film 1 and the 1st magnetic layer 2.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To make the adhesion of a lubricating agent uniform by forming a nozzle means of an ultrasonic spraying device for spraying the lubricating agent toward a magnetic layer of a material to be evaporated running in a slit through which a drop-like lubricating agent passes. CONSTITUTION: A material 6 to be evaporated comprising a synthetic resin tape having a magnetic layer formed on the side 6a of the surface thereof runs to a winding roll 14 from a feed roll 13 in a vacuum container 1 via a heating roll 8. An ultrasonic spraying device 3 comprises an ultrasonic vibration system 4 having a vibrator and a nozzle means 5 to be excited from the vibrator through a horn. A slit-shaped opening with the length thereof equal to the width of the material 6 to be evaporated is provided at the tip part facing the material 6 to be evaporated of the nozzle means 5. A lubricating agent supplying device 11 supplies a lubricating agent via an internal cavity of the nozzle means 5 to be sprayed to the material 6 to be evaporated at the slit- shaped opening. Here, as the width of clearance of the slit can be set accurately from the minimum 1μm, the spraying across the width of the material 6 to be evaporated is uniform while the thickness thereof can be controlled precisely.

In the cooling zone 27, the temp. of the mixture gas is controlled by using liquid nitrogen flowing through a helical tube 28. The temp. of the gas is controlled by detecting temperatures at a thermocouple 29 disposed in the downstream of the cooling zone 27 and at P1 and P2 and controlling the temp. of a heater 30.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a metallic thin film type magnetic recording medium having a high S-N ratio and ensuring very slight dropout by forming two magnetic layers on a substrate and one diamond layer between the magnetic layers. CONSTITUTION: When this magnetic recording medium is produced, a protective layer is formed in vacuum on each of magnetic layers 2, 4. The protective layer on the magnetic layer 4 is formed by sticking carbon, a carbide, nitride or oxide, especially diamondlike carbon, diamond, boron carbide, silicon carbide or aluminum oxide to the magnetic layer 4. The sticking method for forming the protective layer may be any of a chemical vapor growth method (CVD) and a physical vapor deposition method (PVD). An ECR method using microwaves or a method using high frequency (RF) is especially effective as the CVD method. In the case where the protective layer is formed by the CVD method, any of gaseous, liq. and solid starting materials may be used.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the traveling properties of the recording medium by providing the medium with a substrate, a magnetic film formed on one surface of the substrate, particles spot- or press-bonded to the other surface of the substrate and a metal film formed on the other surface of the substrate. CONSTITUTION: In this recording medium, the order of formation of a magnetic metal film 2 on one surface of a substrate 1 and a nonmagnetic metal film 6 (back coat film) on the other surface of the substrate is optional and since the surface of the back coat film of the recording medium thus manufactured is not too smooth, or rather, comparatively rough, the medium has an adequate friction coefficient such that the sticking phenomenon of the medium at the time of allowing it to travel hardly occurs. Thus, the objective recording medium having good traveling properties and excellent characteristics with respect to recording and reproduction can be manufactured.
