    Abstract: Sulfur-containing, oil-soluble compositions are described which are useful as lubricating oil additives, particularly in lubricants containing little or no phosphorus. In one embodiment, the compositions of the invention comprise (A) at least one metal salt of at least one dithiocarbamic acid of the formula R1(R2)N-CSSH (I) wherein R1 and R2 are each independently hydrocarbyl groups in which the total number of carbon atoms in R1 and R2 is sufficient to render the metal salt oil-soluble, (B) at least one oil-soluble sulfurized organic compound, and (C) at least one auxiliary corrosion-inhibitor. In other embodiments, the compositions also contain (D) at least one detergent/dispersant. Lubricating oil compositions containing the compositions of the invention exhibit improved oxidation-corrosion-inhibiting properties, anti-wear properties, and/or extreme pressure properties. Such lubricating compositions containing less than about 0.1% by weight of phosphorus also exhibit good compatability with nitrile seals.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a composition comprising the combination of (A) at least one alkyl phenol of the formula (R)a-AR-(OH)b (I) wherein each R is independently a substantially saturated hydrocarbon-based group of an average of at least about 10 aliphatic carbon atoms; a, and b are each independently an integer of one up to three times the number of aromatic nuclei present in Ar with the proviso that the sum of a, b and c does not exceed the unsatisfied valences of Ar; and Ar is an aromatic moiety which is a single ring, a fused ring or a linked polynuclear ring having 0 to 3 optional substituents selected from the group consisting essentially of lower alkyl, lower alkoxyl, carboalkoxy methylol or lower hydrocarbon-based substituted methylol, nitro, nitroso, halo and combinations of said optional substituents, and (B) at least one amino compound with the proviso that the amino compound is not an amino phenol. Lubricants and lubricating oil-fuel mixtures for two-cycle engines which include the above compositions, and methods for lubricating two-cycle engines are also within the scope of this invention.

THESE ACYLATING AGENTS ARE CHARACTERIZED IN THAT THE POLYALKENES FROM WHICH THEY ARE DERIVED HAVE A MN VALUE OF ABOUT 1300 TO ABOUT 5000 AND A MW/MN VALUE OF ABOUT 1.5 TO ABOUT 4. THE ACYLATING AGENTS ARE FURTHER CHARACTERIZED BY THE PRESENCE WITHIN THEIR STRUCTURE OF AT LEAST 1.3 GROUPS DERIVED FROM THE DIBASIC, CARBOXYLIC REACTANT FOR EACH EQUIVALENT WEIGHT OF THE GROUPS DERIVED FROM THE POLYALKENE. THE ACYLATING AGENTS CAN BE REACTED WITH THE FURTHER REACTANT SUBJECT TO BEING ACYLATED SUCH AS POLYETHYLENE POLYAMINES AND POLYOLS (E.G., PENTACYTHRITOL) TO PRODUCE DERIVATIVES USEFUL PER SE AS LUBRICANT ADDITIVES OR AS INTERMEDIATES TO BE SUBJECTED TO POST- TREATMENT WITH STILL OTHER DERIVATIVES USEFUL AS LUBRICANT ADDITIVES.
