    Abstract: This invention relates to a composition comprising (A) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and (B) a minor amount of (i) a reaction product of (a) at least one dimercaptothiadiazole, and (b) at least one alpha, beta-unsaturated ester prepared by reacting an alpha, beta-unsaturated carboxylic acylating agent with a hydroxy compound, or (ii) a salt of the reaction product, provided that when the acylating agent is a monocarboxylic acylating agent then the hydroxy compound is a monohydroxy compound, and provided that when the ester is formed from a maleic acylating agent, then the ester is formed from a sulfur-containing hydroxy compound or a combination of a polyhydroxy compound and a monohydroxy. The invention also relates to aqueous fluids, greases, and concentrate compositions containing the reaction products and its salts. These additives generally show an ability to improve antiwear (including extreme pressure) and antioxidation properties of lubricants, aqueous fluids, and greases.

    Abstract: 2058299 9114040 PCTABS00007 This invention relates to an article comprising: (A) a polymer fabric treated with (B) a wetting agent which comprises at least one compound of the formula (I), wherein R1 is a hydrocarbyl group having about 8 to about 150 carbon atoms; R2 is a hydrocarbylene group, or a hydroxysubstituted or hydroxyalkyl substituted hydrocarbylene; each R3 is independently hydrogen, an alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, a hydrocarbylcarbonyl or polyoxyalkylene group; each R4 is independently a hydrocarbylene group; each n is independently 1 to 150; m is zero or one; m' is zero or one; M is a hydrogen, an ammonium cation or a metal cation, and when m' is zero, X is -H, -Ar, -OH, -OR5, (.alpha.), -N(R3)2, (.beta.) or (.psi.); and when m' is one, X is -H, -R5, (.delta.), or (.epsilon.) wherein each R5, R6 and R8 is independently a hydrocarbyl group having up to 100 carbon atoms; R7 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having from 1 to about 8 carbon atoms and Ar is a phenyl group. The treated polymer fabrics of the present invention have improved wicking/wetting characteristics. Further, the treated polymer fabrics maintain these characteristics upon repeated exposure to fluids.

    Abstract: Phosphorus-containing compositions and carboxylic ester compositions are described. The esters are useful as synthetic lubes and as lubricants in liquid compositions containing fluorine-containing hydrocarbons. A liquid composition also is described comprising (A) a major amount of a fluorine containing hydrocarbon containing one or two carbon atoms, and (B) a minor amount of a soluble organic lubricant comprising at least one carboxylic ester characterized by the formulae (* CHEMICAL STRUCTURE *) (I) (* CHEMICAL STRUCTURE *) (IIIA) (* CHEMICAL STRUCTURE *) (IIIB) and (* CHEMICAL STRUCTURE *) (IIIC) wherein R* is a hydrocarbylene group or a hydrocarbylene group substituted with a -P(O)(OR3)2 group; Z is -COOR1, -C(O)NR4R5, -C(O)(OR6)yN(R4)C(O)R7, C(O)(OR6)yOC(O)R7, -CN, -CHO, or -C(O)R7; Ro is an alkylene group; R1 is a hydrocarbyl group or a hydrocarbyloxy hydrocarbyl group and R1 may be the same as R3; R3 is independently a hydrocarbyl group; R4 and R5 are each independently H or hydrocarbyl groups; R6 is a hydrocarbylene group; R7 is a hydrocarbyl group; y is an integer from 1 to about 20; R10 is independently H or a hydrocarbyl group; R11 is H, or -COOR1; and n is an integer from 2 to about 6, provided that in Formula I, at least one of Z or R11 is a -COOR1 group, and when both Z and R11 are -COOR1, R* is a hydrocarbylene group substituted with a -P(O)(OR3)2 group. The liquid compositions of the invention are useful particularly as refrigeration liquids in refrigerators and air-conditioners including auto, home and industrial air-conditioners.
