A novel phosphor preparation consists of an UV phosphor with a coating of one or more catenated polyphosphates of alkaline earth metals, zinc, cadmium and/or manganese. Also claimed is a plasma display panel containing the above phosphor preparation, the catenated polyphosphates preferably having a chain length of 3-90. Preferably, the phosphor is an aluminate phosphor, especially Eu :Ba(Al,Mg)11O19, and the coating consists of a catenated alkaline earth metal polyphosphate containing 0.1-20 wt.% catenated zinc, cadmium or manganese polyphosphate.
