Abstract: - 14 - RCA 70,762 A remote control system utilizing a portion of a television receiver system to control appliances external to the television receiver. A specific embodiment is shown for controlling a telephone through the television remote control unit. The viewer answers or originates telephone calls by operating the television remote control unit. In an alternate embodiment, the signal carrier from the control unit to the television is modulated in order to transmit voice signals. Further applicances may be controlled through the telephone line or by other connections to the television receiver.

Abstract: A video playback system incorporates a modulator system to enable direct connection to a television receiver antenna terminals. The modulator system includes a tunable source of radio frequency carrier signals. Each of the frequencies to which the source is tunable is selected to be of a frequency to which a television receiver tuner is tunable. Double sideband modulated output signals from the modulator are applied to a tunable attenuator filter. The filter is tunable to a plurality of frequencies and tracks the tuning of the source of radio frequency carrier signals. The tunable attenuator filter attenuates the lower sideband signal information of the output signals from the modulator to provide vestigal sideband modulated radio frequency output signals.

Abstract: A desk top calculator or other generator of digitized video signals is coupled to the antenna terminals of a conventional television receiver. A circuit within the generator translates the digitized video signals into a modulated TV R-F picture carrier. The circuit includes a radio-frequency source, and a network of diode switchable attenuators. The latter are operated in response to control signals for switching the radio-frequency signal between three discrete levels. Two of the levels are for the display of black and white, respectively, and the third level is a "blacker than black" synchronization level.
