Abstract: Ceramic igniters are provided that comprise two cold zones with an interposed hot zone, the hot zone having an electrical path length of from 0.51 cm to about 2 cm. Igniters of the invention can effectively diffuse power density throughout the igniter hot zone region, without producing isolated temperature gradients which can lead to premature igniter degradation and failure. The invention also provides new methods for forming ceramic igniters.

Nepájená keramická zapalovací svícka sestává z elektricky vodivého keramického telesa se dvema studenými konci (1) a s odporovou zónou mezi nimi a dvojicí zakoncení, která sestávají z pouzdra (56) s prvním koncem (88) a druhým koncem (89), pricemž studené konce (1) keramického telesa jsou zachycené trvale v prvních koncích (88) pouzder (56) kovových zakoncení a jsou s nimi spojené elektricky. Svícka má pak dvojici kovových nálitku, které jsou v elektricky vodivém styku jak s príslušným keramickým koncem, tak i se zakoncením, jehož pouzdro (56) má mezikruží ohranicující prícnou díru (9), v níž spocívá kovový nálitek, který je ve styku s koncem (1) keramického telesa zachyceno v pouzdru (56), s nímž se stýká i mezikruží. Zpusob vytvorení kovového zakoncení keramické zapalovací svícky spocívá v tom, že se vytvorí pouzdra (56) s vnitrním povrchem odpovídajícím vnejšímu povrchu konce (1) keramického telesa, tyto konce (1) se vloží do pouzder (56) a vnitrní povrch pouzdra (56) se chemicky pripojí k vnejšímu povrchu každého ramena respektive vloženého konce (1).
