Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate the residual quantity of liquid in the ink tank of an ink jet printer equipped with an ink supply unit for supplying ink to a print head. SOLUTION: In the ink jet printer comprising a print head 1 for ejecting ink from an ink ejection nozzle 10, and an ink supply unit for supplying ink 7 to the print head 1, the ink supply unit comprises an ink tank 6 containing the ink 7, an auxiliary tank 3 for temporarily storing the ink 7 supplied therefrom and supplying the ink 7 to the print head 1, and a liquid quantity detector 4 for detecting the quantity of ink 7 in the auxiliary tank 3. Quantity of ink 7 supplied from the ink tank 6 to the auxiliary tank 3 is detected using the liquid quantity detector 4, and the residual quantity of ink 7 in the ink tank 6 is calculated based on the quantity of supplied liquid. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently maintain the liquid discharging performance by reducing discharge defects of a liquid by a liquid discharging head in a liquid discharging performance maintenance method of a liquid discharging apparatus which discharges the liquid from liquid discharging nozzles of the liquid discharging head. SOLUTION: An ink (predetermined liquid) (i) within a printing head 22 which is supplied from an ink tank 4 to be discharged from the ink discharging nozzle 40a is ejected out of an ink-sending pipe 159, and bubbles mixed in the ink (i) are removed, whereby the discharge defects of the ink (i) are reduced in the liquid discharging performance maintenance method. After the execution of bubble removal through ejection of the ink (i) in the printing head 22 is started, the bubble removal is continuously executed until a fixed time passes since the state that no bubbles are present in the ink (i) ejected from within the printing head 22 is detected. The ink discharge defects of the printing head 2 are thus reduced, and the ink discharging performance maintenance is carried out surely. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circulation pump of liquid ejector capable of sucking liquid with a pressure low enough to sustain a meniscus on the liquid surface in a liquid ejection nozzle. SOLUTION: The circulation pump of liquid ejector comprises liquid inlet 41 and outlet 42 provided at one side part of a pump chamber 22 formed in a pump case 40, a stretchable membrane member 27 arranged on the other side part of the pump chamber 22, a rest spring 29 provided in the pump chamber 22 and sucking ink 12 into the pump chamber by pushing the membrane member 27 outward, an operating section 28 provided on the outside of the pump chamber 22 and discharging ink 12 from the pump chamber by pushing the membrane member 27 inward, and a drive section 32 for imparting a pressing force to the operating section 28. The load for pushing the membrane member 27 outward by the rest spring 29 upon releasing the load for pushing the membrane member 27 inward by the operating section 28 is set lower than the above released load. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharger which can prevent a color shift. SOLUTION: In this liquid discharger, spurs 103 and 104 enable recording paper P to be held by a surface over a width between paper output rollers 101 and 102 in printing. This can restrain the recording paper P from being warped or bent in a thickness direction in a printing position, and can prevent the color shift from being caused because ink i reaches the recording paper P which is bent in the thickness direction. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent overspill of an ejected liquid, received by a platen plate, from the platen plate by providing an ejected-liquid storage means for housing and storing the liquid which is ejected from a liquid ejection head and received by the platen plate. SOLUTION: A liquid ejector comprises: a printer body part 12; a print head 20 which is detachably held by the body part 12 so as to eject ink from a plurality of ink ejection nozzles formed on a nozzle surface; and the platen plate 55 which is arranged in such a manner as to face the nozzle surface of the print head 20, which supports recording paper 51 so as to specify a positional relationship with the print head 20, and which receives the ink ejected from the print head 20. The liquid ejector is provided with an ejected-ink tank 62 for housing and storing the ink which is ejected from the print head 20 and received by the platen plate 55. This prevents the ink, received by the platen plate 55, from overspilling from the platen plate 55. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effect mechanical and electrical detachment/attachment of a head cartridge through a single action without difficulty. SOLUTION: In the head cartridge/connector detachment/attachment mechanism, the head cartridge 8 is to be positioned by being pressed into a cartridge holder 12 using a control lever, and a movable side connector 43 is to be press fitted into a fixing side connector 42 with a slide block 47 which is slide driven by the cam mechanism of the control lever. At that time, the head carriage is press fitted into the cartridge holder from a direction of the component force (arrow mark h') of the pressing direction to the cartridge holder of the head cartridge by the control lever.
