    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide optical recording method and device optically recording the prescribed data for a one side reproducing double layer structural DRAW type recording medium, preventing a signal recorded on a second recording layer relatively far from particularly a light incident side from deteriorating and record-able information density from lowering, and attaining perfect reproducing compatibility and satisfying a request of DVD authoring. SOLUTION: First of all, a second recording layer recording part RL2-D of the first half of the inversion recording data INV-D is recorded on a second recording layer RL2 placed far from the read-out surface of the optical disk (step S5), and thereafter, a first recording layer part RL1-D of the second half of the inversion recording data INV-D is recorded on a first recording layer RL1 placed near to the read-out surface of the optical disk (step S10) for the optical disk having two layers of the first recording layer RL1 and the second recording layer RL2.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which has recording capacity equal to two-layer DVD(digital video disk), reproducing compatibility with a DVD reproducer, and a reproduction exclusive region and a recording region for user. SOLUTION: The optical disk 1 is provided with a first information recording body 3 in which a first information recording part 2 consisting of the reproduction exclusive region is formed on one surface of the first optically transparent substrate and a second information recording body 5 in which a second information recording part 4 consisting of the reproduction exclusive region and a region capable of DRAW is formed on one surface of the second substrate. Therein, the first information recording body and the second information recording body are combined through an optically transparent adhesive layer 6 while facing the sides on which the first or second information recording body is formed to each other, a laser beam is made incident for the side of the first substrate and, thereby, the recording and reproducing of information is optically performed.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the inexpensive, high-contrast liquid crystal display element which has a specific cell gap formed uniformly to high precision and is easily increased in area by setting the properties of a liquid orientation control layer and the properties of spacers to specific conditions. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal element 1 is constituted by arranging a couple of base bodies 1A and 1B, having electrodes 3a and 3b and liquid crystal orientation control layers 4a and 4b provided in this order on substrates 2a and 2b, opposite each other across a specific gap (d) on the sides of the liquid crystal orientation control layers 4a and 4b, arranging liquid crystal 6 in the gap (d), and maintaining the gap (d) by spacers 5. Then the K value of the spacers 5 and the Young's modulus E of the liquid crystal orientation control layers 4a and 4b are so related that 1>=K/E>=0.1. Here, K=(3/2 )F(S .R ); and F is a compressing force, S a compressive deformation quantity, and S is the radius of the spacers 5 regarded as spheres. Consequently, the gap (d) between the orientation films can be maintained against external pressure.

SOLUTION: A display which uses liquid crystal(FLC) is so constituted as to make a display of >=4 gradations in one pixel PX by arranging the FLC between a couple of substrates 1a and 1b having electrodes 22a and 22b on their opposite surface sides. For each pixel PX, the data electrode 22a is divided into an electrode A and an electrode B, whose division area ratio is controlled corresponding to the number of display gradations. When this FLC display is driven, the divided electrodes A and B are driven independently of each other.

CONSTITUTION:At least a saturable absorbent dyestuff-contg. layer 2 formed by a vacuum thin film forming method and a reflection layer 4 are formed on a light transmissive substrate 1 formed with the recording patterns corresponding to information signals as rugged 1a, 1b shapes. Further, a short-wavelength shift layer 3 which shifts the minimal point of the light reflection spectra of the optical recording medium to a short wavelength side is disposed between the saturable absorbent dyestuff-contg. layer 2 and the reflection layer 4. As a result, the recording patterns inscribed on the substrate 1 are correctly traced on the saturable absorbent dyestuff-contg. layer 2 and the reflection layer 4 and the reflectivity is confined within an adequate rate. Then, the optical recording medium exhibits excellent ultra-definition and good reproduced signals are obtd. from the fine recording patterns formed with micropits at a period shorter than the diffraction threshold lambda/2NA of a reproducing optical system.
