    Abstract: PURPOSE: To allow a motion vector detector to conduct sub sampling in which a mis-detection hardly takes place. CONSTITUTION: A reference block composed of 4-line × 4-pixel is divided into two reference small blocks 41, 42 each composed of 4-line × 2-pixel. Furthermore, a check block 43 is similarly divided into two check small blocks 44, 45. A data location representing maximum and minimum values as to data of the reference small blocks 41, 42 is located. Data at the data location corresponding to the specific data location are selected among the check small blocks 44, 45 and a residue is calculated from the data of the selected check small blocks 44, 45 and data of the corresponding reference small blocks 41, 42. Thus, mis-detection of a motion vector hardly takes place in comparison with the method of sub-sampling fixed pixels by applying adaptive sub-sampling of the reference blocks in this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form the motion vector detector not needing a clock signal independently of data read clock signals in the case of detecting a motion vector with accuracy of a half picture element. CONSTITUTION:The detector is provided with a matching arithmetic circuit 3 with accuracy of integral number of picture elements and with a matching arithmetic circuit 4 with accuracy of 1/2 of picture element or less and the matching arithmetic circuit 3 with accuracy of integral number of picture elements and the matching arithmetic circuit 4 with accuracy of 1/2 of picture element or less are operated in parallel. Thus, the matching arithmetic circuit 3 with accuracy of integral number of picture elements and the matching arithmetic circuit 4 with accuracy of 1/2 of picture element or less are driven by a clock signal of a common frequency.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the detection accuracy and to reduce the circuit scale by extracting a characteristic value efficiently based on a characteristic depending on a direction. CONSTITUTION:When a received video signal is a signal of the interlace system, picture element data of a reference block and an object block read from a reference frame memory 1 and a retrieval frame memory 2 are fed respectively to element reduction circuits 4, 5, in which two picture elements arranged in the horizontal direction are added or averaged to extract one characteristic value thereby halving number of elements of both the blocks in the horizontal direction. Then a subtractor circuit 8 and an absolute value circuit 9 obtain an absolute value of the difference of each element of both the blocks and a minimum value of the correlation obtained by an accumulation circuit 10 is detected by a minimum detection circuit 11 and it is used for a matching block to obtain a motion vector. Thus, the calculation quantity for detecting the correlation between the reference block and the object block is reduced without reducing the detection accuracy by halving number of elements in the horizontal direction in this way.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the circuit scale by decreasing an arithmetic quantity without deteriorating the detection accuracy when a moving vector whose picture element accuracy is less than 1/2 picture element. CONSTITUTION:The detector is provided with an interpolation circuit 8 forming an interpolation picture element between picture elements of picture data of a check block. The interpolation circuit 8 is an interpolation circuit for two picture elements to form interpolation picture elements in horizontal and vertical directions with respect to a current picture element. Only the two picture elements in the horizontal and vertical directions are interpolated and no interpolation for 4 picture elements is conducted, the arithmetic quantity is considerably reduced and then the circuit scale is decreased. Since a moving vector is detected within a range where a correct moving vector is in existence with high possibility, the detection accuracy is not deteriorated.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve picture quality by detecting the differences in brightness between an object picture element and its peripheral picture elements and controlling the input/output characteristics of a function circuit according to the differences. CONSTITUTION:A digital brightness signal Sy is supplied to a subtracting circuit 12 through an input terminal 11 and the output signal Ss of this subtracting circuit 12 is supplied to a frame memory 14 to generate a signal Sd which is delayed by one frame period. Then the delay signal Sd and the signal Sy from the terminal 11 are supplied to a subtracting circuit 15 to extract a noncorrelative signal Sn between the signals Sd and Sy. This noncorrelative component Sn is supplied to the subtracting circuit 12 through the function circuit 16 with the input/output characteristics. The subtracting circuit 12, therefore, subtracts the noncorrelative component Sn from the input signal Sy, but this noncorrelative component Sn is a noise component, so the output signal Ss becomes a brightness signal whose noise component is reduced or removed. Thus, noises on a screen are reduced or removed.
