Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the whitening phenomenon of pictures by a simple constitution in which a means to drying an ink ribbon in advance is provided. CONSTITUTION:A ribbon 30 is fed in contact with a heating plate 41, during which period moisture present in the ribbon 30 is vaporized and the ribbon 30 is dried. The dried ribbon 30 is supplied to a heat-sensitive head 19, and therefore, the evaporation of moisture by heating in the head 19 can be eliminated. The generation of gases and crimping by vaporization can be eliminated and the whitening phenomenon of pictures can thus be prevented.

A hole 38 is formed at the position of a bottom cover 1a resisting the pushed section 33c for release, and the pushed section 33c for release can be pushed by the hole 38. The lock lever 33 is organized so as to be able to be displaced between the position of locking and the position of locking release.

When the bearing bushes 13b of the platen shaft 13a are fitted into the positioning parts 22, a driving gear 64 rotates the platen 13, and a kick gear 63 presses a link rod 61 downward by a projection 63a, whereby a head 12 is pressed down.

CONSTITUTION:When a take-up side roller 12 in a cartridge 10 is pushed into a roller holder 30 and a casing 14 is pulled upward, the roller 12 is detached from the notch 17 in a casing 15, and is left supported by the roller holder 30. With the casing 14 further pulled, a printing ribbon 13 is paid out from a payout-side roller 11 in the manner of being drawn. Next, the roller 11 is pushed into a payout-side roller holder 29 in the state of being enclosed in the casing 14. Then, a movable arm 31 is lowered, whereby the ribbon 13 is pushed downward by a platen 32 and a guide roll 33.
