    Abstract: A transparent article consists of a transparent substrate coated with a transparent film composed of a composition made up as follows (parts by weight) -100 parts of an organic silicon compound10-30 parts of a polyfunctional epoxy resin having an aromatic or aliphatic ring, and25-800 parts of antimony oxide particles with an average particle size of 1 to 200 nm.The organic silicon compound has the general formula (I)or is a hydrolysis product of a compound within that formula.In formula (1) R' and R 2 each stand for an alkyl group an alkenyl group, an aryl group or a hydrocarbon group having a halogen group, an epoxy group, a glycidoxy group, an amino group, a mercapto group, a methacryloxy group or a cyano group, R 3 stands for an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, an alkoxyalkyl group, an acyl group or a phenyl group, and a and b are 0 or 1.Transparent articles of the invention are suitable for spectacle and camera lenses, and for other optical articles.

    Abstract: SPIRO-OXAZINE COMPOUNDS AND PREPARATION THEREOF AND PHOTOCHROMIC SHAPED ARTICLE A novel spiro-oxazine compound of the formula (A): (A) wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 and R7 independently represent hydrogen, (C1 or 2) alkyl, halogenated (C1 or 21 alkyl, (C1 or 2) alkoxy, halogen or nitro, R is unsubstituted or substituted phenyl or naphthyl, and n is 1 to 5. The spiro-oxazine compound is prepared by reacting a precursor of the spiro-oxazine compound of the formula (A), which has a substituent of the formula: in the nitrogen atom of the indoline nucleus, with an a-nitroso-.beta.-naphthol. The spiro-oxazine compound is valuable as a photochromic material and exhibits enhanced fatigue resistance in photocolorability.

    Abstract: Disclosed is an anti-reflection optical article which has an excellent anti-reflection property, scratch resistance, impact resistance, flexibility, anti-static property and weatherability, and which is easy to dye. The anti-reflection optical article of the present invention comprises a transparent plastic substrate; a hard coat film formed on a surface of the substrate, the film having an index of refraction of not less than 1.52; and a fluorine-containing organopolysiloxane-based film with a thickness of 10 nm to 500 nm, which has an index of refraction lower than that of the hard coat film by not less than 0.02, and which is formed on the hard coat film.

    Abstract: An anti-fogging film derived from the curing of polyvinyl alcohol, finely divided silica and an organic silicon compound and a hydrolysate thereof which is capable of forming silanol by hydrolysis and having such a carbon/silicon element ratio that said ratio of the surface layer of the film is larger than that of the entire film, the production process thereof, and an article covered with said film are described. The above-mentioned film has an excellent anti-fogging property, surface hardness and good service durability.

    Abstract: A tintable coating composition is provided. It includes (A)(1) hydrolysates of silane compounds containing at least one epoxy group and not less than two alkoxy groups which are directly bonded to Si atom in the molecule, and, if necessary (2) compounds containing silanol and/or siloxane groups in the molecule, and/or (3) epoxy compounds; (B) fine silica particles having an average diameter of from about 1 to about 100 m.mu.; and (C) an aluminum chelate compound having the general formula AlXnY3-n, where X is OL (and L represents a lower alkyl group), Y represents one or more ligands produced from a compound selected from the group consisting of M1COCH2COM2 and M3CoCH2COOM4 where all of M1, M2, M3 and M4 are lower alkyl groups,and wherein n is an integer comprising 0, 1 or 2. This invention also concerns an article, preferably plastic, coated with said coating composition and having a hard and tintable, scratch-resistant film, which is formed by heating and curing. These films show improved scratch resistance, flexibility, antistatic properties and dyeability when compared with the known films of this type.
