    Abstract: Se forma un patron de fundicion a la cera perdida al conformar un primer elemento de nucleo metalico que incluye por lo menos un rebajo. El primer elemento de nucleo se acopla a por lo menos un coincidente de un elemento del troquel y un segundo elemento de nucleo. El rebajo sirve para retener al primer elemento de nucleo en relacion al coincidente. Se ensambla un troquel y se introduce un material de sacrificio al troquel para incrustar por lo menos parcialmente el primer elemento de nucleo. El rebajo se puede preformar antes del corte del primer elemento de nucleo a partir de una lamina mas grande de material.

    Abstract: A gas turbine engine includes an airfoil having a core that has a first hardness and a surface on the core. The surface includes a plurality of geometric features that have a second, greater hardness. The geometric features define a surface porosity by area percent and a corresponding surface solidity by area percent. The surface includes a ratio of the surface solidity divided by the surface porosity that is 1.8 or greater. The geometric features and the ratio establish the surface to be hydrophobic, and the second, greater hardness and the ratio establish an erosion rate of the surface that is equal to or less than an erosion rate of the core under identical erosion conditions.

    Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a casting system is provided which broadly comprises a core (10) and a wax die (12) spaced from said core (10), a refractory metal core (14) having a first end seated within a slot (18) in the core (10) and a second end contacting the wax die (12) for positioning the core (10) relative to the wax die (12), and the refractory metal core having at least one of a mechanism for providing spring loading when closed in the wax die and a mechanism for mechanically locking the wax die to the core. The method comprises the steps of placing a piece of refractory metal material (16) over an area of the component to be repaired (12) and depositing a repair filler metal material (20) over the piece of refractory material (16) in an amount sufficient to repair the component and welding the repair filler metal material (20) in place. The refractory metal material (16) may be selected from the group consisting of niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten, a metal having a melting point higher than the melting point of nickel, and alloys thereof and may be uncoated or coated.
