Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for releasing a requested amount of power from a power facility to an associated power grid, the method comprising the steps of providing a release signal as to when the requested amount of power is to be released from the power facility to the associated power grid, ramping up the power generation of the power facility, and releasing the requested amount of power to the associated power grid in accordance with the release signal, wherein at least part of an excess power generated during ramping up is dissipated and/or stored in suitable power handling modules. The present invention also relates to a power facility controller being capable for performing this method.

Abstract: There is provided a method of operating a renewable power plant that is connected to a wider power network by a bus. The method comprises: identifying a predetermined voltage condition of the renewable power plant or of the bus; controlling the renewable power plant to maintain zero reactive power exchange at the bus for a first period; calculating an average voltage level of the bus that was achieved during the first period; and controlling the renewable power plant to maintain the voltage output at a set voltage level for a second period, the set voltage level being substantially equal to the calculated average voltage level. The method ensures that voltage oscillations due to a push-pull phenomenon between a power plant controller and the power network do not upset the stability of the grid.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for controlling a wind power plant, WPP, comprising a plurality of wind turbine generators, WTGs, connected to an electrical grid, the method comprising: setting a plant power reference (Ptotal) according to an electrical value of the electrical grid; determining an inertia delta power reference (IRdeltaP) required for the WPP to meet a power demand in response to a change in the electrical value; adding the inertia delta power reference and the plant power reference (Ptotal) to form a power reference (Ptotalref); deriving an overboost reference (PrefOB) as the difference between the power reference (Ptotalref) and an available power value; dispatching the power reference (Ptotalref) to each wind turbine generator; dispatching the overboost reference (PrefOB) to each wind turbine generator. The invention also relates to a wind power plant control system and a wind power plant comprising a control system.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to a method for controlling one or more wind turbine generators. The method comprises: monitoring an electrical parameter of a power network to which the wind turbine generators are connected with respect to a deadband for the electrical parameter; and determining that the monitored electrical parameter is deviating outside of the deadband. In response to determining that the electrical parameter is deviating outside of the deadband, the method comprises: quantifying a severity of the deviation; and selectively implementing a parameter control mode when the quantified severity of the deviation is at or above a threshold level. In the parameter control mode, one or more power set points are determined based on the value of the electrical parameter and are dispatched to control the wind turbine generators.

Abstract: A method for preparing a wind power facility for a transition from a first mode of operation to a second mode of operation includes the steps of specifying a set of operational parameters to be applied by the wind power facility in connection with the second mode of operation, said specified set of operational parameters being available for the wind power facility in response to a provided transition triggering signal, and providing the transition triggering signal and applying the specified set of operational parameters in the wind power facility in response thereto, wherein a subset of the specified set of operational parameters is applied in each of a plurality of wind turbine generators in response to the provided transition triggering signal. The first mode of operation may involve a normal mode of operation whereas the second mode of operation may involve an island mode of operation.

Abstract: In various embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a method of controlling active power generation of a wind power plant coupled to a power grid, the wind power plant including a power plant controller for controlling a plurality of wind turbine generators. In an embodiment, the method includes monitoring an operational status of a plant compensation equipment and adjusting a plant reactive power capability when the operational status of the plant compensation equipment indicates a fault in the plant compensation equipment. According to an embodiment, the method includes controlling the wind power plant to curtail the active power generated by the wind power plant by a curtailment amount determined based on the adjusted plant reactive power capability. A corresponding wind power plant is further provided.

Abstract: A method and associated control arrangement are disclosed for controlling a power output of a wind power plant (WPP) according to a predetermined power ramp rate limit, the WPP comprising a plurality of wind turbine generators (WTGs). The method comprises receiving a first signal indicating that a first WTG is in a ready state to begin producing power. The method further comprises, upon determining that, responsive to the received first signal, beginning power production of the first WTG at a predetermined default power ramp rate would cause the power output of the WPP to exceed the power ramp rate limit, controlling power production of the first WTG using at least one of: a first delay, a power ramp rate reference less than the default power ramp rate, and a power reference less than a nominal power output of the first WTG.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling injection and absorption of reactive power in a wind power plant (WPP). In addition to wind turbine generators (WTG), the wind power plant comprises reactive power regulating devices, such as MSU and STATCOM devices. The reactive power regulating devices are controlled by wind power plant controller so that the combined amount of reactive power produced by the wind turbine generators and the reactive power regulating devices satisfies a desired amount of reactive power. In case of communication fault between the power plant controller and one of the reactive power regulating devices, the power plant controller is reconfigured so as to compensate the capability of the reactive power regulating device to inject or absorb the amount of reactive power.
