Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system to optimize the sheet handing speed, or the like by detecting the characteristics of the paper sheet, and regulating the setting of a sheet carrying mechanism based on the detected characteristics. SOLUTION: A paper sheet characteristics sensor system 100a measures the curl and the thickness of the paper sheet using two paper sheet characteristics sensors 110. Each paper sheet characteristics sensor 110 comprises a member 112, a base 114, and a measurement circuit. Two members 112 are arranged opposite to each other, and both members 112 are brought into contact with a sheet 116 when the paper sheet 116 is passed therethrough. Each member 112 is connected to the base 114 including the measurement circuit. Each measurement circuit measures the displacement of a related member.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator containing a pneumatic expansion type elastomer membrane, laminated on a printed circuit substrate and pressurized and decompressed by utilizing an electrostatically driven flap valve. SOLUTION: The flap valve obtains a high pressure regarding a closing pressure and a holding pressure since the flap valve is closed only when a pressure gradient and a flow are zero. Fluid extracted from the elastomer membrane is discharged through the wall of the actuator while shrinking. An air jet type object moving device opens and closes an air hole for air jet by utilizing array of the pneumatic pressure actuator as a valve. An optical fiber microswitch positions a mirror by utilizing the pneumatic pressure actuator. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system compensating faults of optical modulators. SOLUTION: A display system 210 includes a light source 250 and a screen 282 and the physical array 242 provided in an optical path being in-between. The physical array 242 has plural optical modulators arranged in a row shape. A pixel picture displacing mirror 270 orients modulated lights from displays as a first virtual pixel row to displays as a second virtual pixel row being on the screen 282 in order to compensate trouble optical modulators.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system correcting failure of a optical modulator, because a display comprising a two-dimensional optical modulator array having a plurality of optical modulator groups has a poor yield of production, and the display is composed of independent optical modulators each of which costs more than tens thousand yen but only a few failures of them disable the use of the system. SOLUTION: A display system 310 comprises a source of light 350, a screen 382, and a physical array 342 arranged in an optical path between them. The physical array 342 has a plurality of optical modulators arranged in a form of lines. A redundant array 385 is provided for correcting a faulty optical modulator line, and light modulated by this redundant array 385 is oriented by a picture element image deflecting mirror 370 positioned to selectively replace the faulty line.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent any mistaken carriage of the object such as paper, and to improve the carrying accuracy by providing at least one laminate consisting of the dielectric base material impregnated in the resin, and providing a plurality of elements to control the fluid flow on the dielectric base material. SOLUTION: A micro device support system 10 comprises a plurality of micro devices including an array 26, a valve 27, and a sensor 28 of air conduits. A conveyor includes laminates 51-56 consisting of resin-impregnated fiber glasses which are adhered to each other, and the air conduits 26 includes tapered air conduits 31-34 having approximately circular section which is formed by offset- drilling laminate layers. The valve 27 is located on the air conduit 26 to control the fluid flow from a fluid pressure source 121 and to apply the force to an object to be carried, and includes a flap valve 37 and a solenoid valve embedded in a channel 42.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a low-cost system of high reliability to move a flexible object without requiring physical contacting. SOLUTION: A transport system 10 to move a flexible object has a conveyor 120, which includes at least one laminate 51-56 made of a dielectric base material impregnated with resin, and each laminate has an alley for a valve 27 embedded at least partially. Each valve includes an element movable relative to the dielectric base material to control the fluid flow and has a plurality of electric connection parts of metal, which are formed on the laminate photolithographically and connected with valve electrically.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the necessity of physical contact or the like with a traced object by judging the operation of the object based upon plural temperatures in a local area of the object having heat gradation and correcting the operation of the object based upon the operation information. SOLUTION: In a paper handling system 10 for precisely moving paper supported by an air jet e.g. a conveyer including plural air jets 26 can support, move and guide paper 12. An infrared-ray laser 31 induces local temperature gradation 34 on the paper 12 by directing a laser beam 32 and a heat sensing device 40 provided with plural temperature sensors measures plural temperatures in the local area having heat gradation on the paper 12. An operation calculating device 50 connected to the device 40 judges the operation of the paper 12 based upon the plural measured temperatures and an operation controller 52 corrects the operation of the paper 12 based upon operation information received from the device 50. Consequently the speed and position of an object can be traced without requiring physical contact and permanent marking.
