Abstract:
A spam fax filter (120) which has been configured in accordance with the present invention can include a fax transformation processor (180) configured to transform rasterized fax images into non-rasterized representations of fax images. The spam fax filter further can include a knowledge base (150) of known spam characteristics. Finally, the spam fax filter can include a comparator (140) configured to compare non-rasterized representations of fax images produced by the fax transformation processor to the characteristics in the knowledge base to detect spam fax in the spam fax filter.
Abstract:
A method is provided for fax call blocking. The method includes: receiving a first call intended for an end instrument (10) employed by a user; obtaining a telephone number from which the first call originated; comparing the obtained telephone number against a first database (42) to determine if the obtained telephone number matches a blocked telephone number contained in the first database (42); blocking the first call such that the end instrument (10) is not alerted if a match is found between the obtained telephone number and a blocked telephone number, otherwise providing a connection to the end instrument (10) for the first call; monitoring the connection to detect for fax tone; and, entering the obtained telephone number in the database (42) as a blocked telephone number if fax tone is detected.
Abstract:
A communication apparatus includes a main unit and a communication control unit. The communication control unit informs the main unit of an incoming call. The main unit makes a judgement on whether the incoming call should be accepted. In accordance with this judgement, the main unit instructs the communication control unit to respond to the incoming call. The communication control unit responds to the incoming call in accordance with the judgement by the main unit. In accordance with the state of a memory for storing received signals or with the called party number, the main unit makes a judgement on whether the incoming call should be rejected or ignored.
Abstract:
A system and method for controlling facsimile communications is disclosed. A facsimile machine contains a plurality of display screens containing step-by step instructions allowing a user to use complex facsimile functions. The facsimile machine contains a phonebook containing information, including facsimile telephone numbers, for a plurality of remote facsimile machines. The facsimile machine can detect the facsimile telephone number and name of a remote facsimile machine sending an incoming facsimile message and store the information about the remote facsimile machine in the phonebook. The facsimile machine can be configured to ignore incoming facsimile messages from remote facsimile machine not listed in the phonebook. Similarly, the facsimile machine can be configured to permit outgoing facsimile messages to be transmitted only to remote facsimile machines listed in the phonebook. The user can display the phonebook on a display and select information associated with a remote facsimile machine, and the facsimile machine will determine the facsimile telephone number from the selected information using the phonebook. The user can also group a set a remote facsimile machine together so that an outgoing facsimile message can be specified as going to any one of the remote facsimile machines in the group, and the facsimile machine will send the outgoing facsimile message to all members of the group.
Abstract:
A computer readable medium having a computer program product stored thereon, the computer program product including instructions for ordering a computer to perform the following steps. The steps include a first receiving step of receiving a facsimile command from a client device configured to executes a facsimile application program, a first determining step of determining whether or not to allow communication with a facsimile device based on a predetermined condition when receiving the facsimile command at the first receiving step, and a transferring step of transferring the facsimile command received at the first receiving step to the facsimile device when the communication is allowed at the first determining step.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile driver program and a facsimile system, for achieving a highly versatile utilization limit. SOLUTION: The facsimile driver program makes a computer function as a first reception means for receiving a facsimile command from a client device, a first determination means for determining whether or not to permit communication with facsimile equipment on the basis of a predetermined condition when the facsimile command is received by the first reception means, and a transfer means for transferring the facsimile command to the client device when it is determined to permit the communication by the first determination means. Abstract:
An information processing device includes: a receiver that receives a job that is a unit of processing of predetermined processing, an effective period of the job, and a shutdown command which sets a power supply of the device itself to a shutdown state; and a controller that, when the shutdown command is received by the receiver and no job has been received by the receiver and accumulated, performs control to set the power supply to the shutdown state.
Abstract:
A communication apparatus includes a communication unit. When receiving a request to start communication from a second communication apparatus during communication with a first communication apparatus, the communication unit transmits to the second communication apparatus a communication disabled notification with a retransmission time period indicating a time until the request to start communication again. In addition, when receiving a request to start communication from a third communication apparatus after completing the communication with the first communication apparatus and before receiving the request to start communication sent again from the second communication apparatus based on the retransmission time period, the communication unit does not start data reception from the third communication apparatus so as to give priority to data communication with the second communication apparatus.
Abstract:
A system includes a switch responsive to a control module. The control module that determines whether an incoming telephone call from a telephone number to a telephone line is a facsimile call or a voice call and whether facsimile calls are authorized to be routed to the telephone line. When the incoming telephone call is a voice call, the control module instructs a switch to route the incoming telephone call to the telephone line. When the incoming telephone call is a voice call, the control module instructs the switch to route the incoming telephone call to the telephone line when facsimile calls are authorized, and to deny routing the incoming telephone call to the telephone line when facsimile calls are not authorized.
Abstract:
An information processing apparatus is configured to communicate image data with an external apparatus connected to the information processing apparatus via a network. The information processing apparatus includes a memory unit configured to store first image data, a receiving unit configured to establish a communication session with the external apparatus in response to a request from the external apparatus and receive second image data from the external apparatus, a determination unit configured to determine whether to transmit the first image data to the external apparatus, and a transmission unit configured to transmit the first image data to the external apparatus using the established communication session based on the result of the determination made by the determination unit.
