Abstract:
The invention provides a scanner system which in one embodiment includes only a single moving part in the document path, namley a drive roll, which serves not only to move the document through the system, but also to provide a backing against which the document is pushed while a proximate region thereof is being scanned. The invention in an embodiment also provides an opto-mechanical assembly that is shock-mounted to the frame of the system at only three-spaced apart locations, so that the assembly tends to be isolated from vibration and torsional forces.
Abstract:
An original reading unit is provided that is superior in the performance of the adjustment of line sensors. According to the present invention, between a unit base and a transparent original support plate, multiple sensor assemblies are arranged, to form a zigzag pattern, as a first array for reading an original and a second array for reading the original following the first array. Each of the sensor assemblies includes a sensor holder, a line sensor and a focus setup unit. Each of the sensor holders, which serve as fulcrums, are rotatable at a single pivot (a rotation center), along the wall of a unit base that is parallel to the original support plate. When the sensor holders are rotated and positioned at predetermined locations, they are fixed to the wall. The line sensors 51 are held, relative to the sensor holders, in the main scanning direction and in the sub-scanning direction, and are moved in an approaching or separating direction in which the line sensors approach or are separated from the wall and the original support plate. The focus setup units, each of which includes coil springs and spacers, move the line sensors 51 in the approaching or separating direction, and position the line sensors 51 at locations whereat focuses are adjusted.
Abstract:
An apparatus (100) for assembling components of a color optical scanner subassembly which includes a first filter member (80), a second filter member (70) and a photosensor unit (52). The apparatus includes an imaging means (50, etc.) for impinging an imaging light beam from a line object onto the first and second filter assemblies (80, 70) for producing spatially separated color component images (53, 55, 57) of the line object on the photosensor unit (52). The apparatus (100) also includes a physical adjustment assembly (114, 116, 120, 122, 126, 128, 132, 134, 150, 156, etc.) for holding and selectively adjusting the relative position of the first filter member (80), the second filter member (70) and the photosensor unit (52) in response to data signals generated by the photosensor unit. This positioning accurately locates the filter members relative to the photosensor unit for optimizing performance of the color optical scanner.
Abstract:
A mount for an optical device, such as a linear CCD array, is disclosed. The array is mounted on a base which is supported on a frame for adjustment relative thereto. The base is slidably movable on the frame for adjustment of the array in in-track and cross-track directions. The base is movable toward and away from the frame to provide a focus adjustment of the array. In order to provide a mount which can be easily and precisely adjusted to position the array along five degrees of freedom, adjustment screws are positioned such that the position of the array can be changed along one degree of freedom without changing the position of the array along any of the other degrees of freedom.
Abstract:
A light projecting device includes a base board, a light guiding member, a holding member, a cover, and a positioning member. A plurality of light-emitting elements are arranged in a line on the base board in a main scan direction. The light guiding member faces a radiation surface of the light-emitting elements and guides light projected from the light-emitting elements to an irradiation region of an illuminated object. The holding member holds the base board. The cover covers the base board and the light guiding member. The positioning member positions the light guiding member on the holding member. The holding member and the cover sandwich the light guiding member positioned by the positioning member. The light projecting device includes the holding member, the light guiding member, the base board, and the cover as a single unit which is detachably mountable relative to a chassis of the light projecting device.
Abstract:
An image sensor unit includes a frame storing a linear illuminator that linearly illuminates a document, a rod lens array is used to form an image of light reflected from the document irradiated by the linear illuminator, and a printed circuit board on which a light-receiving sensor that converts light whose image has been formed by the rod lens array into an electrical signal is mounted. In the frame, a lens storage compartment, a linear illuminator storage compartment, and the linear illuminator are adjacently arranged substantially in parallel to each other in a longitudinal direction, with an inter-compartment portion formed in the frame interposed therebetween. At least one pin insertion opening is formed that extends from an inner wall of the lens storage compartment opposing the inter-compartment portion into an outside of the frame and through which a pressing pin is inserted, and in the inter-compartment portion, a face defining the lens storage compartment is formed as a vertical reference face with which a side plate of the rod lens array is brought into close contact for fixing. A notch used for applying an adhesive to the side plate of the rod lens array is disposed corresponding to the pin insertion opening and is formed to be open from the lens storage compartment to the linear illuminator storage compartment.
Abstract:
An optical scanning device includes a light source, an optical system, and a housing. The light source projects a light beam. The housing includes a holder and encloses the optical system. The optical system includes a liquid crystal element held by the housing via the holder, to modulate a phase of the light beam projected from the light source against a scanned surface. The liquid crystal element includes a plurality of substantially transparent substrates, a liquid crystal layer, and a sealing member. One of the plurality of the transparent substrates has a size larger than any other transparent substrates and is positioned in the holder. The liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between the plurality of substantially transparent substrates. The sealing member seals the liquid crystal layer between the plurality of substantially transparent substrates.
Abstract:
A contact image sensor is provided including a housing, a slit plate a lens, one or two light sources and a light-receiving element array mounted on a light-receiving element array substrate. The housing contains the slit plate, the lens, the one or two light sources and the light-receiving element array substrate. The optical system of the contact image sensor is aligned and one or more depressions are formed on an end of the substrate for the alignment. Power to the one or two light sources is applied through one or more leads. Each of the one or more depressions is large enough so that each of the leads can be passed through the respective depressions.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an image scanning module including a first unit, a second unit, and a third unit. The first unit having a light source is used for retrieving a first image. The second unit is used for generating a second image by focusing the first image. The third unit is used for generating an electric signal responsive to the second image. The first unit, the second unit, and the third unit are modules discrete from each other.
