Abstract:
Magnetic imaging apparatus and method wherein a latent magnetic image is created on a magnetizable imaging member comprising a base or web containing a magnetizable component and wherein said imaging member has an overcoating of an electroconductive material. After development of the latent image with amagnetic toner composition, the developed image is transferred by pressure contact to a receiving substrate and fixed thereto. The imaging member provides substantially improved adhesive properties and efficient transfer of the toner particles to the receiving substrate.
Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium comprises a non-magnetic substrate (21), a magnetic recording layer (22) formed on the non-magnetic substrate (21), and a lubricant layer (23) containing carbon as a major component and formed on the magnetic recording layer (22). At least one element selected from a group consisting of hydrogen and a halogen is bonded to the carbon, as the major component of the lubricant layer (23), in a surface region of the lubricant layer (23). In the formation of the lubricant layer (23), initially only an inert gas is introduced as an atmospheric gas around a carbon target at the begining of sputtering, so that the carbon target is sputtered by cations of the inert gas. Thereafter, a gas containing at least one of hydrogen and a halogen is added to sputter the carbon target. Thus, a carbon-hydrogen atomic bond (C-H bond) and/or a carbon- halogen atomic bond (C-X bond; X is a halogen element) are formed on the surface region of the lubricant layer (23).
Abstract:

Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium comprising a substrate, a magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic metal as a magnetic material on at least one of the surfaces of the substrate and a top coating on the magnetic layer which contains a salt of a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound and an aliphatic amine, which has improved corrosion resistance and running stability.
Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium obtained by forming a Si-N-O system film on a magnetic recording layer with a perpendicular axis of easy magnetization. The magnetic recording layer is a metallic magnetic film such as a Co-Cr system alloy film. The oxygen content in the Si-N-0 system film is selected preferably to show a maximum absorption of infrared radiation in the range above 830cm ' and below 1100cm 1 of 1/λ (λ is the wavelength of the infrared radiation). Through formation of the Si-N-0 system film, the magnetic recording medium can satisfy simultaneously both the durability and the perpendicular magnetic recording chracteristics.
Abstract:
A method for producing a metallic strip (12) is disclosed. A metallic melt containing above about 20% by weight of iron is formed into a strip so that fine iron particles are distributed throughout. The strip may be rolled to elongate the iron particles (28).
Abstract:
New resins containing urethane and/or epoxy bonds are prepared starting from fluorinated polymers having an epoxy structure and exhibiting structural characteristics predominantly typical of epoxides or of polyols, said polymers being prepared by starting from one or more diols of which at least one is a perfluoropolyoxyalkylene diol and from epichlorohydrin. Subsequently, these polymers are subjected to a treatment with isocyanates if their structural characteristics are predominantly those of polyols or with polyamines or anhydrides if their structural characteristics are predominantly those of epoxides.
Abstract:
Polymeric compositions are provided in which perfluoropolyethers have been solubilized in non-fluorinated solvents by combining them with a solubilizing agent such as azotic conjugated compounds, and phosphorylated compounds. Typical of the perfluoropolyethers is Typical of the solubilizing agents is phosphorylated methacryloyloxyhydroxypropylisophthalate. The perfluoropolyether and the solubilizing agent are mixed to form a paste which is soluble in organic solvents such as methylethylketone. These compositions find utility as protective lubricant coatings for thin film magnetic recording media. They have the advantage that only one coating step is required in order to apply both the phosphorylated compound and the lubricating polyether. Recording media lubricated with these compositions have demonstrated excellent wear characteristics.
