Abstract:
A lubricant composition. The lubricant composition includes (a) a phenate, a sulfonate, or both; and (b) a base composition wherein the base composition is (i) a metal carbonate and a metal sulfate, (ii) a metal sulfate and a metal phosphate; (iii) a metal sulfate and a metal carboxylate; (iv) a metal phosphate and a metal carboxylate; or (v) three-way or four-way combination of a metal sulfate, a metal carboxylate, a metal phosphate, and a metal carbonate; and (c) a lubricating oil or a grease.
Abstract:
Emulsions and products thereof are provided. The emulsions at least include an oil component having a viscosity that is 150 centistokes at 40°C or greater, a surfactant, and water. The emulsion components are processed by mixing with multiple and simultaneous mixing operations including at high and low shear mixing rates. The emulsions can be utilized in a variety of products including lubricants and concentrates thereof suitable for use in a number of applications including lubricant-based applications, such as metal working processes.
Abstract:
A method of lubricating a moving surface is herein described wherein the lubricant composition contains a fatty acid, a neutralization agent, a pH buffer, and a carrier. Also described are compositions in both concentrate and dilute form. The compositions may also comprise additional functional ingredients.
Abstract:
The invention relates to hydraulic fluids, in particular to brake fluids for motor vehicles, said fluids containing 0.005 to 0.5 wt.- % of one or more heterocyclic compounds of formula (I). In said formula (i) X represents N, Y represents CR and Z represents N, or (ii) X represents N, Y represents N and Z represents N or CR, or (iii) X represents CR, Y represents N and Z represents N, whereby R signifies hydrogen, halogen or organic groups R that contain 1 to 30 C atoms and n represents 0, 1 or 2.
Abstract:
A two- or a one-step process and composition which coats metal workpiece surfaces (aluminum, copper, steel, stainless steel, etc.) with a thin lubricant film capable of allowing the metal to be deformed at room temperature. The lubricant consists essentially of polymers, dispersants, high molecular weight waxes and insoluble metallic stearates. With some ferrous surfaces, a separate coating layer is simultaneously formed (in the one-step process) or pre-formed (in the two-step process) at the metal interface, acting as a base for the lubricant. The process, after pickling in a mineral acid to remove scale and oxides, comprises the step(s) of immersing the workpiece either once or twice. The workpiece is then dried in a heated, forced air dryer.
Abstract:
An improved power transmission fluid is formed which comprises a major amount of lubricating oil and an additive combination comprising (a) a viscosity modifier having a molecular weight no greater than about 175,000 atomic mass units, and (b) a selected friction modifier.
Abstract:

Abstract:
The invention provides synergistic combinations of phosphorus acid-containing compounds with ashless antioxidants. These combinations dramatically improve the oxidation stability of lubricating compositions, particularly power transmission fluids such as automatic transmission fluids.
Abstract:
The invention is a particulate suspending, antimicrobial concentrate composition. The concentrate may be used in any number of environments including food service and processing environments such as brewing and bottling facilities. Generally the concentrate may be entrained in a product or introduced directly into the environment of use. The concentrate generally comprises an antimicrobial cationic compound such as a quaternary ammonium compound, and a particulate suspending surfactant such as an amphoteric propionic acid salt.
Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition for high-speed gears, particularly those having a peripheral speed of at least 10 m/sec, prepared by compounding a lube base oil having a percentage CA of 5 or less and desirably a nitrogen content of 50 ppm or less and a sulfur content of 50 ppm or less with additives based on, respectively, sulfur, phosphorus and nitrogen in such amounts that the element ratio, 100 N/(S+P), in the composition ranges from 4 to 10 by weight. The composition serves to develop satisfactory hypoid gear performance, is reduced in sludge formation, and can lengthen the service life of oil seal used in the high-speed and high-temperature rotating parts.
