Abstract:
In one aspect the invention is a carrier-free pulverulent metalworking lubricant containing a resin having a highly polar functional group, and in another aspect is a method of the invention of forging a workpiece in a die which includes the step of applying to at least one of the die and the workpiece a coating of an effective amount of the carrier-free pulverulent lubricant composition. The use of the composition and method of the invention significantly reduces smoke and oily waste generation in hot forging operations by eliminating the use of oils or volatile organic compounds as carriers, while providing acceptable performance, cleanability, and sprayability.
Abstract:
There is provided a galvanized steel sheet with high press formability, which has an inorganic compound on a metallic galvanized layer thereof. The galvanized steel sheet according to the present invention is manufactured by bringing the plating surface of the galvanized steel sheet into contact with a water solution containing 0.1 wt% or more of a borate of alkaline metal, and then drying the steel sheet by heating within a temperature range of 60 to 400°C. The friction coefficient of the galvanized steel sheet of the invention is 80% or less of the friction coefficient obtained without the existence of the inorganic compound on the metallic galvanized layer and the amount of insoluble slimes of the inorganic compound left after water washing or alkali degreasing is less than 1 mg/m².
Abstract:
A method of providing improved lubrication of tools used for hot-working rare earth-transition metal alloy particles in which dry glass or glass/graphite lubricants are suitably applied to the working surfaces of the tools.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a thread compound, containing graphite, grease and usual additives, to a process for the preparation thereof and to the use of said compound. The thread compound according to the invention contains 20-50%, by weight, of powdered graphite, 10-25%, by weight, of powdered talc, and balance to 100%, by weight, of grease and the usual additives. The thread compounds according to the invention do not contain lead or lead compounds, but still have the above-mentioned desired properties. Preferred thread compounds of the invention comprise 28-35%, by weight, of the powdered graphite, 14-17.5%, by weight, of the powdered talc, and balance to 100%, by weight, of the grease and the usual additives. Surprisingly good results may be obtained when in the thread compound the amount of talc is about 50%, by weight, of the amount of the graphite.

Abstract:
Thin impermeable, surface hardened, corrosion-resistant, durable, dry lubricant surface finishes are provided as well as surface finished products and methods for the production thereof. The surface finishes comprise particulate mixtures of sulfur containing metallic compounds and fluorocarbon polymers and are applied to surfaces of substrates such as metallic surfaces.
