Abstract:
The invention concerns the use of mixed hydroxydes of bivalent and trivalent metals with a three-dimensional space-lattice structure of the garnet type to control the thixotropic thickening of aqueous preparations, using swellable clays and/or other swellable layer-silicate compounds of natural and/or synthetic origin as visosity-increasing agents. The preferred garnet-type mixed hydroxydes are catoites of the basic structure Ca3Al2(OH)12 a minor proportion of whose OH units can be exchanged for acid groups, in particular silicate groups.
Abstract:
Stable concentrated liquid and solid antimicrobial lubricating compositions can be formulated which include (-) 5 to 40 wt % of a C6-24 fatty acid, (-) 10 to 40 wt % of a quaternary ammonium salt, (-) an amount of an alkaline source sufficient to increase the pH of the composition to at least 8, and optionally (-) about 0.1 to 10 wt % of an amine. The balance of the liquid form of the composition constitutes water. The lubricating compositions are particularly useful on the load bearing surfaces of conveyor belts used in food preparation where a combination of effective lubricity and efficacious antimicrobial activity are necessary.
Abstract:
In the cold drawing of steel tubing, an excellent lubrication which permits drawing the tubing while retaining its original metallic luster can be achieved by first contacting the surfaces of the tubing, both exterior and interior, with a colloidal titatium containing aqueous composition, drying the tubing, and then applying to the surface of the tubing a liquid lubricating composition comprising (i) from 40 to 95 % of a first component selected from the group consisting of olefin/oil or olefin/fat compounds which contain from 23 to 30 % of sulfur and olefin/higher ester compounds which contain from 23 to 30 % sulfur, including mixtures of two or more chemical species meeting this description; and (ii) from 5 to 50 % of a second component selected from the group consisting of oil soluble polymer compounds, fats and oils, synthetic oils, mineral oils, higher fatty acids, and the amine salts of higher fatty acids.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a nitrite-free wet dressing agent for preventing the contamination of rollers and corrosion of the rolled sheet, the dressing agent containing a carboxylic acid and an amine, characterized in that the nitrite-free aqueous wet dressing agent consists of at least 2-20 % by wt of a monovalent with 6-20 C-atoms or a divalent with 4-12 C-atoms aliphatic and/or aromatic and/or arylaliphatic carboxylic acid, 0-10 % by wt of boric acid, 0.1-10 % by wt of an N-acylated derivative of N-methylglycine of the general formula (I) in which R = a saturated or unsaturated C11-C19 alkyl group and M = H, Li, Na, K, ammonium or alkanolammonium, 0-5 % by wt of a water-hardness-complexing agent, 0-0.5 % by wt of a perfuming agent, an amine which forms a salt with said carboxylic acid in aqueous solution and which is added in a quantity such that the pH-value is between 8 and 11, the remainder consisting of water. The invention also concerns a process for finishing steel strip, using this aqueous wet dressing agent.
