    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant for hot plastic processing that exhibits excellent lubricity and suppliability and exerts no bad influences on corrosion resistance of a product, and an outer surface-lubricating method in the manufacture of a seamless pipe using the lubricant.
    SOLUTION: The lubricant for hot plastic processing includes 20-40 mass% of iron oxide and 10-30 mass% of sodium silicate and has an impurity content of at most 3 mass% and a water content of 40-60 mass%. The lubricant is suitably applied to lubrication of, for example, a guide shoe at the time of piercing rolling of a high Cr steel. When the lubricant is used, it is directly applied on the outer surface of a material to be processed just before piercing rolling (desirably within 1 second before the beginning of the piercing rolling).
