To provide a dispersion composition having a high refractive index and giving an excellent surface state to a film after coating, and a curable composition, a transparent film, a microlens and a solid-state imaging device each using the dispersion composition; and provide a compound able to afford a dispersion composition having a high refractive index and giving an excellent surface state to a film after coating and drying and maintain the dispersion stability of particles. A dispersion composition containing (A) a metal oxide particle having a primary particle diameter of 1 to 100 nm, (B) a polymer compound represented by the following formula (1) having a weight average molecular weight of 10,000 or less, and (C) a solvent:

There is provided a method of forming an aqueous composition, said method comprising (a) first, forming at least one aqueous polymer dispersion by a process comprising polymerizing a monomer mix comprising 5-50% by weight based on the weight of said monomer mix, of one or more carboxylic acid functional monomers; (b) second, adding to said aqueous polymer dispersion, ingredients comprising (i) 1 to 10 parts by weight of at least one swelling agent, based on 100 parts by weight of said monomer mix; and (ii) one or more nonionic surfactant, anionic surfactant, or mixture thereof; and
(c) third, adding calcium cation or magnesium cation or a mixture thereof to said aqueous polymer dispersion.

Disclosed is a coating material for forming a gas barrier. The coating material includes a polyalcohol polymer, a polycarboxylic acid polymer, and a divalent or higher-valent metal compound whose surface is coated with a poorly water-soluble component, or alternatively a monovalent metal compound whose surface is coated with a poorly water-soluble component and a divalent or higher-valent metal compound whose surface is coated with a poorly water-soluble component. By applying this coating material to a plastic substrate layer, a gas-barrier multilayer body having a gas-barrier layer formed thereon is obtained.

A photosensitive resin composition for a flexible circuit board having excellent flame retardancy and with non-halogenation for consideration of environmental aspects, and a flexible circuit board obtained by using the same. There is provided a resin composition for aqueous paint which has well-balanced non-stain-adhering property and weather resistance and can provide a coating film having a high gloss. The resin composition for aqueous paint comprises 100 parts by weight of a synthetic resin emulsion (A) (parts by weight of a solid content of the emulsion), from 0.1 to 30 parts by weight of a silane coupling agent (B) represented by the formula (I): (R O)3SiR , wherein R is the same or different and each is an organic group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, R is an epoxy-containing organic group having a ring structure and as case demands, 1 to 50 parts by weight of a silane compound and/or a partly hydrolyzed condensate thereof (C), in which the silane compound is represented by the formula (II): (R O)4-aSiR a, wherein R is the same or different and each is an organic group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, R is the same or different and each is an organic group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a is 0 or 1, and further a curing catalyst (D) .

The antifouling coating material comprises a polymer having specific organosilicon ester groups and a polymer having specific metal carboxylate groups. The antifouling coating film is formed from the antifouling coating material. The submerged structure has the antifouling coating film. Expandable or pre-expanded thermoplastic particles, e.g. polystyrene particles, used to form foam containers e.g. cups, bowls, are coated with a coating composition comprising a liquid part consisting of a) liquid polyethylene glycol with an average molecular weight of 200 to 800; and a solid part comprising components selected from the group consisting of b) polyolefin wax, e.g. polyethylene wax, c) a metal salt of higher fatty acids, e.g. zinc stearate or calcium stearate; d) polyethylene glycol with an average molecular weight of 900 to 10,000; and e) a fatty bisamide or fatty amide, e.g. ethylene bis-stearamide; and combinations of b) through e). The coating composition prevents or resists leakage of liquids and foods with oil and/or fatty components and improves the rim strength and ATF properties of foam containers.

Adhesive tapes (e.g., duct tapes) having a backing comprising a compatibilized release composition are reported. The compatibilized release composition comprises a thermoplastic olefin-based polymer comprising an acid or a base functionality and a polymeric release material comprising an acid or a base functionality. The functionality of the thermoplastic olefin-based polymer and the functionality of the polymeric release material provide an acid-base interaction that compatibilizes the release composition.
