Abstract:
The present invention relates to lubricant compositions and can be used for treatment of friction units in different machines and mechanisms in manufacturing processes, the purpose of which is modification of friction surfaces. The basis of the invention is the improvement of lubricant composition, in which as the consequence of the additional use of thickener and wax, the viscosity of lubricant composition sufficient for conversation of uniform distribution of solid component in lubricant composition in broad temperature range is provided; and at the expense of that, the possibility of conservation of lubricant composition in any packaging and bulks, which are usable even under operating conditions of machines and mechanisms, is reached. The lubricant composition acquires the state of gel, that is convenient to put on any friction surface, to deposit on a zone of friction of any friction units. The lubricant composition ensures the receiving of engineering results similar to those, which solid components exhibit using fine-dispersed powder on basis of natural minerals from flaky silicates series and at the same time the sedimentation properties of lubricant composition permit its continuous conservation in broad temperature range without variation of lubrication and modification properties.

A lubricating composition comprising a base oil of mineral and/or synthetic origin in combination with a friction-reducing additive combination comprising molybdenum disulphide, zinc naphthenate and one or more metal dithiophosphates, and optionally one or more metal dithiocarbamates. A lubricating grease comprising such a composition in combination with a thickener, which may be a urea compound, a simple lithium soap or a lithium complex, is particularly suitable for lubricating constant velocity joints such as constant velocity ball joints.

A solid film lubricant system for protecting metal wear interfaces subject to high temperatures and wet lubrications, comprising an oil-attracting solid lubricant mixture (A) with at least two elements (A1, A2, A3) selected from the group of graphite, MoS2 and BN; a support (B) (i.e., hard lands or hard sublayer) for the mixture to loads of at least 10 psi at temperatures of 600-800 DEG F while being thermally stable; a thermally stable thermoset polymer matrix adhering the mixture to the support or the wear surface, the polymer having inherent hydrocarbon chemical attraction to form a tenacious oil film of the lubricating oil on the wearing surfaces, such as cylinder bore surfaces of a cylinder block of an internal combustion engine.

A grease primarily for use with constant velocity joints comprises a base oil, which may be a mineral oil, or synthetic oil, or a mixture of such oils, and a lithium-based soap thickener, which may be a simple lithium soap or a complex lithium soap, in combination with: (1) an organo-molybdenum complex capable of functioning as a friction reducing additive; (2) an anti-wear/anti-oxidant compound; (3) an organo-sulphur compound extreme pressure additive; and (4) an organo-phosphorus compound extreme pressure additive. A grease in accordance with this formulation has been found to exhibit an unexpected combination of low friction and low wear characteristics when used in constant velocity joints.

Iron-based metallurgical powder compositions are produced by mixing iron-based powder with an improved binder/lubricant that comprises dibasic organic acid and one or more additional components such as solid polyethers, liquid polyethers, and acrylic resin. These novel binder/lubricants impart one or more enhanced green properties to the powder compositions and reduce the ejection force required to remove the compositions from molds and dies.

A lubricant composition comprises at least 0.1 % by weight of substantially spherical particles of a hard, abrasion-resistant and fracture-resistant, thermally stable and chemically inert material, and up to 99.9 % by weight of a supporting vehicle. The particles are preferably of silica-alumina ceramic material, and preferably have an average diameter of less than 250 mu m. Lubricants are suitable for most applications, but are especially useful for conditions of high temperature and pressure.
