Abstract:
A lubricant composition for the plastic working of metals that does not require a phosphate undercoating, is waterborne, requires only a simple application process of immersion or spraying followed by drying, and provides an excellent lubricating performance comprises synthetic resin, water-soluble inorganic salt, and water. The weight ratio of the content of salt to that of synthetic resin is from 0.25:1 to 9:1. This composition can also contain liquid and/or solid lubricating agent(s) and extreme pressure additive.

PCT No. PCT/CA97/00658 Sec. 371 Date Jun. 22, 1999 Sec. 102(e) Date Jun. 22, 1999 PCT Filed Sep. 11, 1997 PCT Pub. No. WO98/13445 PCT Pub. Date Apr. 2, 1998The present invention relates to novel lubricant compositions comprising a solid lubricant and a binding agent in water medium suitable for lubricating steel-steel interfaces such as tractor-trailer couplings, rail-wheel systems and other heavy duty applications. The invention also relates to compositions described above which include friction modifiers with high or very high and positive coefficients of friction such that the coefficient of friction is considerably higher than the solid lubricant. The invention further relates to compositions comprising a binding agent and a friction modifier with a very high and positive coefficient of friction in a water medium.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition capable of effectively preventing a rolling surface of a bearing from flaking owing to hydrogen embrittlement. The bearing is lubricated with the lubricant composition. The lubricant composition is lubricating oil or grease. The lubricant composition contains a molybdate. The lubricant composition also contains an organic acid salt. At least one molybdate is selected from sodium molybdate, potassium molybdate, and lithium molybdate. The organic acid salt is a sodium salt of an organic acid having one to 20 carbon atoms. 0.01 to 5 wt% of the molybdate is added to the entirety of the lubricant composition. 5 wt% to 70 wt% of the organic acid salt is added to the addition amount of the molybdate. The lubricant composition has a function of forming a film containing a molybdenum compound in addition to an iron oxide film on a worn surface of the bearing or on a fresh surface of an iron-based metal generated by wear. The bearing is used as a rolling bearing for use in electric parts and auxiliary machines of a vehicle. The bearing is also used as a bearing, for a motor, in which the lubricant composition is sealed.

Lubricating oils exhibiting anti rust properties are obtained by adding to the lubricating oil an acidic anti rust additive and an acid scavenger such as carbodiimide, in a specific sequence.
Abstract:
A stainless steel wire is plated with nickel (Ni) to a thickness of from not less than 1 mu m to not more than 5 mu m. An inorganic salt coat film mainly composed of at least one of potassium sulfate and borax (borate) and free from fluorine (F) or chlorine (Cl) is then deposited on the nickel (Ni) plate 2 as the substrate. The steel wire is then drawn to a reduction of area of not less than 60% to adjust the surface roughness thereof to a range of from 0.80 to 12.5 mu mRz, preferably from 1.0 to 10.0 mu mRz.

The present invention provides a method of stabilizing non-halogenated 3-isothiazolones in aggressive systems with pH above 8.5. The invention also discloses compositions with pH above 8.5, containing non-halogenated 3-isothiazolones and an effective stabilizing amount of a iodine-containing stabilizer.
Abstract:
Waterborne lubricants comprising: (A) water-soluble inorganic salt; (B) homogeneously dispersed solid lubricant; (C) at least one homogeneously emulsified substance selected from mineral oils, animal and plant oils and fats, and synthetic oils; (D) surfactant; and (E) water, in which the weight ratio (B)/(A) is from 0.05:1 to 2:1 and the weight ratio {C/(A + B)} is from 0.05:1 to 1:1, provide a one-step, highly lubricating waterborne lubricant for use in the cold plastic working of metals. This waterborne lubricant can replace the conversion coating treatment (phosphate, oxalate, etc.) + reactive soap treatment combined lubrication system now in general use and is free of the environmental issues associated with the combined lubrication system, provides for facile coating removal, and is not subject to the decline in seizure resistance caused by nonuniform add-on when large numbers of workpieces are treated together by immersion.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a lubricating composition, in particular for swaging, consisting of a suspension in water of a mixture of phospholipids and an organic or mineral basic compound. For example, the composition contains 80 wt.% water, 10 wt.% phospholipids brought in the form of soja bean lecithin, and 10 wt.% of calcium hydroxide or stearylamine as basic compound. Among other advantages the lubricant can be eliminated by means of an aqueous solvent, and is easily biodegradable.
