    Abstract: Direct-current-to-direct-current (DC-DC) power converters that include two or more multi-quadrant, multi-level, DC-DC, switching converter subcircuits, connected in parallel at respective input and output sides, so as to provide a multi-channel, multi-quadrant, multi-level configuration, are disclosed. The DC-DC power converters further include a control circuit configured to control the switching converter subcircuits so that corresponding switching semiconductors in each of the switching converter subcircuits are switched in an interleaved manner. In some embodiments, each of the switching converter subcircuits is a three-level, neutral-point-clamped, four-quadrant DC-DC converter circuit. In other embodiments, each of the switching converter subcircuits is a three-level, neutral-point-clamped, two-quadrant DC-DC converter circuit. In any of these embodiments, a filter capacitor may be connected between across a pair of output terminals at the output sides of the switching converter subcircuits.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for secured control of circuit breakers in an electric power substation against undesired direct operation. Consequences of a malicious action are prevented or mitigated using a validation approach that either blocks the command or ensures a negligible effect on system operation. An example method, suitable for implementation in a monitoring device in an electric power substation, includes receiving a command to open or close a circuit breaker. In response, one or more state parameters for the electric power network that comprises the substation are then predicted, the predicted state parameters reflecting an operating state for the network under the assumption that the received command is executed. The method further comprises comparing the predicted one or more state parameters to corresponding operational limits. Execution of the command is then blocked, in response to determining that one or more of the predicted state parameters violate the corresponding operational limits.

    Abstract: Unique systems, methods, techniques and apparatuses of a substation phasor data concentrator (ssPDC) is disclosed herein. One exemplary embodiment is a method for operating an electrical substation including a merging unit (MU), a phasor measurement unit (PMU), and a substation phasor data concentrator (ssPDC). The method includes receiving, with the MU and the PMU, input information corresponding to a set of electrical characteristics of the electrical substation; measuring, with the MU, the input information; measuring, with the PMU, the input information; a and estimating, with the ssPDC, electrical characteristics of the electrical substation using the received false measurement and the one of the MU measurement and the PMU measurement, determining in substantially real time the false measurement does not correspond to the set of electrical characteristics using the estimated electric characteristics, and replacing the false measurement with the received the one of the MU measurement and the PMU measurement.

    Abstract: A method replaces a saturable core reactor (SCRs) in a rectifier power transformer disposed in a transformer vault at its field location. The transformer has an oil-filled tank housing the SCRs. The tank has a manhole opening therein. A busbar structure is associated with each SCR. The method drains the oil from the tank. A busbar structure is disconnected from an associated SCR. The disconnected busbar structure is moved away from the transformer. The SCR is removed from the tank through the manhole opening and is lowered. The SCR is then conveyed from the transformer vault. A replacement SCR is moved to be adjacent the manhole opening and is then slid through the manhole opening and into the tank to a certain location. The busbar structure is moved so as to be associated with a replacement SCR and is connected to the replacement SCR.

    Abstract: One or more apparatuses are provided for forming a seal between a circuit breaker and an enclosure. A adjustable door assembly comprises an inner floating frame assembly positioned according to a floating configuration between a first external flange and a second external flange that connect to an enclosure door of an enclosure housing a circuit breaker. The inner floating frame assembly comprises an inner floating frame and an inner floating box frame. An adjustable coupling is used to apply a force, between the inner floating frame and the inner floating frame box, to the inner floating box frame towards a front side of the circuit breaker to form a seal between the front side of the circuit breaker and the enclosure door. The seal may provide a barrier for mitigating arc flash, hazardous gases, material, and/or explosive force from escaping from a backside of the circuit breaker.

    Abstract: The present invention comprises an apparatus and method for detecting a loss of oil from an oil-immersed transformer, based on fitting a transformer top-oil temperature model to online measurements in an iterative optimization process that yields fitted values for a first model parameter representing the top-oil temperature rise over ambient temperature and a second model parameter representing the oil time constant.
