A brand control method for an automatic tobacco article processing machine (1), the method including the steps of: defining a number of end product brands that can be produced on the automatic machine (1); creating a number of configurations (17), each associated with a respective brand and having a set of values (16) of control parameters (15) controlling electrically controlled operating parts (14) to produce the brand; selecting a desired end product brand; loading the configuration (17) corresponding to the desired end product brand onto a control unit (9) to commence production of the desired brand; defining a number of sections (18), each having a set of control parameters (15) and independent of the other sections (18); defining a number of recipes (19) by assigning each section (18) at least one respective set of values (16) of the corresponding control parameters (15), so each recipe (19) corresponds to a respective section (18) and contains the values (16) of the control parameters (15) in that particular section (18); and defining each configuration (17) by combining a number of compatible recipes (19), so that each recipe (19) may potentially form part of a number of different configurations (17).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of folding a rectangular sheet of packing material about a parallelepiped-shaped article to form a tubular wrapping with an open end.SOLUTION: A method of folding a sheet 1 of packing material about a parallelepiped-shaped article; the method providing for: bringing an end wall 10a of the article into contact with the flat sheet of packing material, so that major transverse edges of the article are parallel to the short sides of the sheet of packing material, and minor transverse edges 13 of the article are parallel to the long sides of the sheet of packing material; folding the sheet of packing material into a U about the major transverse edges of the end wall, so that the sheet of packing material completely covers both the major lateral walls of the article; and folding the sheet of packing material about longitudinal edges 11 of a major lateral wall and onto minor lateral walls of the article, before folding the sheet of packing material about minor transverse edges of the end wall.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a less-expensive and easy-operated tobacco packaging machine and its tobacco packaging method. SOLUTION: There are provided a method and a machine for use in folding a sheet 6 for a substance to be packaged while enclosing each of bundles of tobaccoes so as to form an inner packaging body for each of them, wherein a web 49 for substance to be packaged is supplied at first to a work station placed at the upstream side of a monitoring station and fed through the monitoring station for use in detecting the position of a collating mark 57 formed in the web 49. Subsequently, the web 49 is supplied to the sheet 6 for the substance to be packaged through a cutting station where the web is cut. Each of the sheets 6 for the substance to be packaged is supplied to a packaging station where each of the sheets 6 encloses each of the bundles of tobaccoes and is folded into it. SOLUTION: This chain conveyor has an endless conveyor belt (6) having a transportation face (7) formed by linking many links (34) connected with hinges. The chain conveyor has at least one pulley (23) rotating around rotary shafts (19, 21). The conveyor belt 6 brings the side face (35) of the conveyor belt crossing the transportation face (7) orthogonally into contact with the side face (36) of the pulley (23), and its fringe is wound around the pulley (23). PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly feasible cigarette packing machine for producing a rigid, short-hinged lid cigarette packets which is inexpensive and easy to produce. SOLUTION: The packing machine has a fourth packing wheel which receives a group 13 of the wrapped cigarettes from a third transfer wheel 15 in a third transfer station 18 and receives a collar 22 from a first feed line at an input station 21 located in the upstream from the third transfer station 18 and folding the collar 22 in a tubular shape around the group 13 of the wrapped cigarettes. Further, the packing machine has a fifth packing wheel 23 which receives a blank 28 supplied by a second feed line together with the group 13 of the wrapped cigarettes and the collar 22 at a fourth transfer station 24, forming an outer box by folding the blank 28 around the group 13 of the wrapped cigarettes and releases the cigarette packet.
