Abstract: The present invention is directed at a process for fractionating lignocellulosic biomass for the purpose of reducing processing costs, increasing delignification, reducing side-reactions, in particular reducing hemicelluloses degradation, improving cellulose hydrolysis and increasing the nativity of the obtained lignin, by performing organosolv fractionation of the biomass with a treatment liquid at a temperature below 170° C., wherein the treatment liquid comprises a non-hydroxylic organic solvent, in particular a ketone, water and some acid, and optionally subjecting the cellulose-enriched product stream to enzymatic hydrolysis.

Abstract: Reactor for producing a product gas from a fuel having a housing (11, 12, 13) with a combustion part accommodating a fluidized bed (7) in operation, a riser (2) extending along a longitudinal direction of the reactor (1), and a downcomer (3) positioned coaxially around the riser (2) and extending into the fluidized bed (7). One or more feed channels (8) for providing the fuel to the riser (2) are provided. The riser (2) is attached to the housing (11, 12, 13) of the reactor (1) in a bottom part (13) of the housing (11, 12, 13), and a part of the riser (2) above the one or more feed channels (8) is moveable with respect to the downcomer (3) in the longitudinal direction of the reactor (1).

Abstract: A process for the treatment of biomass with a relatively high water and salt content such as agricultural or forestry residues comprises: (a) mechanically pre-treating wet biomass; (b) extracting the pre-treated biomass with water at a temperature between 40 and 160oC at a pressure which keeps water substantially liquid; (c) dewatering the heated biomass to produce a dewatered biomass and an aqueous effluent; (d) optionally heating the dewatered biomass at a temperature above 160oC; (e) drying, before or after step (d), and compacting the heat-treated biomass. The treated biomass can be used as a solid fuel. The aqueous effluent is subjected to anaerobic treatment, to produce biogas an/or alcohols.

Abstract: The invention provides a catalyst for the production of hydrogen by steam reforming. The catalyst is a porous catalyst which is based on at least aluminium oxide and preferably magnesium oxide, and further comprises boron and nickel. The porous catalyst comprises pores having an average pore size in the range of 0.1-50 nm. The activity of the catalyst may be further enhanced by addition of a noble metal such as Rh, Ru, Pd, Ir or Pt. The catalyst can be broadly used in hydrogen production processes, and is especially suitable for reforming using a membrane which is selective for a predetermined reaction product. Such process can be operated at relatively low temperatures of about 450-700 ºC.
