Abstract:
The invention provides conductive polymers comprising metal-containing nucleic acid duplexes electrically coupled to an electron source. Methods for making conductive metal-containing nucleic acid duplexes are provided, comprising subjecting a nucleic acid duplex to basic conditions in the presence of a divalent metal cation. Methods of using conductive metal-containing nucleic acid duplexes are provided, including methods of genomic analysis, methods of molecular screening and immunological methods that produce antibodies to such molecules.
Abstract:
Cloning and expression of genes encoding H. somnus transferring-binding proteins are described. The transferrin-binding proteins can be used in vaccine compositions for the prevention and treatment of H. somnus infections, as well as in diagnostic methods for determining the presence of H. Somnus infections.
Abstract:
A desiccated mature gymnosperm somatic embryo characterized by having a moisture content which is lower than the moisture content of its corresponding zygotic embryo and a dry weight and per embryo lipid content which are higher than the lipid content and dry weight of its corresponding gymnosperm zygotic embryo. Preferred desiccated gymnosperm somatic embryos are conifer somatic embryos having a moisture content ranging between 10 and 55 %. Also within the scope of the invention is a method for producing desiccated somatic embryos. The method comprises developing immature embryos in a medium comprising at least one non-permeating water stress agent, a metabolizable carbon source and a growth regulator having an influence on embryo development for a period of time sufficient to yield the recovery of mature somatic embryos having a moisture content which is lower than the moisture content of corresponding zygotic embryos. The method can optionally include a secondary desiccation treatment to further reduce the moisture content of the embryos.
Abstract:
The invention relates to antigenic preparations and vaccines directed against the porcine multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), comprising at least one porcine circovirus antigen, preferably type II, and at least one porcine parvovirus antigen.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the present invention relates to novel bovine adenovirus expression vector systems which utilize the following regions of the bovine adenovirus genome: nucleotides 4,092-5,234; nucleotides 5,892-17,735; nucleotides 21,198-26,033 and nucleotides 31,133-34,445. These regions can be used, among other things, for insertion of foreign sequences, for provision of DNA control sequences including transcriptional and translational regulatory sequences, or for diagnostic purposes to detect the presence of viral nucleic acids or proteins encoded by these regions, in a subject or biological sample. In another embodiment, the present invention relates to novel methods for the construction, isolation and propagation of recombinant bovine adenovirus (BAV) with deletions (and optionally insertions of heterologous sequence) in the E3 region. Recombinant BAV containing insertions of genes encoding protective determinants of a pathogen stimulate enhanced systemic and mucosal immune responses and protect host animals against challenge by the pathogen.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
The invention derives from the discovery of cells, NA cells, which have properties indicating that they may be pluripotent lymphohematopoietic progenitor cells. These cells, and the stromal cells derived from bone marrow cultures, produce factors which stimulate the growth of primitive cell colonies, as reflected in their stimulation of the growth of colonies of NA cells. These primitive cell colony stimulating factors (PC-CSFs) may be useful in the treatment of disorders which can be alleviated by the proliferation of desired cells. In addition, the NA cells and/or PC-CSFs) may provide an alternative and/or supplementary method to bone marrow transplantation to alleviate hematopoietic disorders.
