    Abstract: In a method for the evaluation of the scanning profile of a probe tip to be used in a scanning probe microscope, the scanning probe microscope provided with the probe tip is used to record an image of the structure of the primary surface of an evaluation profile, a monocrystalline substrate being used as the evaluation profile, the primary surface of which reveals defined atomic and mesoscopic details which are based on the structure of the crystal pattern of the substrate; the recorded image is compared with these mesoscopic structural details defined by the crystal pattern to obtain a definition of the form and dimensions of the probe tip. A favourable evaluation profile can be obtained through temperature treatment.
