Abstract:
PURPOSE: A dietary fiber of ginseng and its producing process are provided, particularly the water-insoluble and water-soluble ginseng dietary fiber can be produced by extrusion using ginseng dregs generated from the manufacture of ginseng extract. CONSTITUTION: The process for producing the ginseng dietary fiber comprises the steps of: collecting the ginseng dregs after extraction, and drying and pulverizing the ginseng dregs using a heat-dryer and a pulverizer to prepare a powdery ginseng dregs; inserting the powder into a two shaft extruder having length to diameter ratio(L/D ratio) of 20 to 40, and extruding it under conditions of screw rate of 150 to 400rpm, ginseng powder-inserting rate of 20 to 60 kg/hr and water content of 15 to 40%; adding 1 to 10%(w/v) of the extruded material into distilled water, agitating the mixture for 40 to 80 minutes, and centrifuging it at 6,000 to 9,000xg for 5 to 15 minutes; preparing water-insoluble ginseng dietary fiber by collecting the pellets and drying them; and producing water-soluble ginseng dietary fiber by collecting the supernatant, filtering it, adding isopropanol into the filtrate and storing the mixture for 3 to 5 hours, washing the precipitate with isopropanol and acetone, and drying it.

PURPOSE: A method for inhibiting bio-synthesis of cholesterol using xanthorrhizol is provided for use in treating cardiovascular diseases such as arteriosclerosis, hear disease. CONSTITUTION: The Acyl-CoA: Cholesterol Acyltransferase(ACAT) catalyzes the esterification of cholesterol inducing arteriosclerosis, heart attack, and stroke in vivo. The xanthorrhizol to be isolated from Curcuma xanthorrhiza has the structure of formula I and inhibits the activity of Acyl-CoA: Cholesterol Acyltransferase(ACAT). The inhibition activity of ACAT is measured by inhibition percentage of xanthorrhizol or inhibition concentration(50%) IC50, that the concentration inhibits the activity of ACAT by 50% under given conditions, in the presence of 20 nM of ACAT, and is confirmed by animal test, in which after inducing high accumulation of cholesterol, xanthorrhizol is administrated.

A novel ligand of a nuclear receptor PPARgamma is provided to control expression of genes related to sugar metabolism by activating PPARgamma, promote adipocyte differentiation by maximizing sugar-receiving ability of preadipocyte, and reduce sugar level in blood, so that it is useful for prevention and treatment of type II diabetes. The ligand of the nuclear receptor PPARgamma contains macelignan represented by the formula(1) or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt. A pharmaceutical composition for prevention and treatment of disease capable reacting with activation of nuclear receptor PPARgamma comprises the macelignan represented by the formula(1) or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, wherein the disease reacting with activation of nuclear receptor PPARgamma is type II insulin-tolerant diabetes.

CONSTITUTION: A process for the preparation of antibiotic composition for oral microorganisms using medicinal plant extract comprises of: preparing each dried reagent(Baekea frutescens, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Kaempferia pandurata, Morus alba, Physalis angulata, or Quercus infectoria); pulverizing each dried reagent to 80mesh, and mixing each reagent 100g with 75% methanol 400ml, and extracting repeatedly for 2times while shaking for 2days; filtering each extracted reagent with Whatman No.2 filter sheath; concentrating each filtered solution under decompression to eliminate solvent ingredient with a vacuumed rotary concentrator; freeze-drying to get each powdered reagent.
