Abstract: A method for preparing 1-(4-amino-3,5-dichloro phenyl) -2-tert. butylamino-ethanol of formula (I) comprises (a) silylating tert. butyl amines of formula (II); and (b) reacting the obtd. cpd. with phenyl bromoethanol derivs. of formula (III) in the presence of sodium alkoxide of formula RONa wherein R= methyl or ethyl. Pref. the silylating agent is chlorotrimethyl silane, hexamethyl disilazane or bis (trimethylsilyl) acetamide; the solvent is methylene chloride, chloroform, CCl4, tetrahydrofurane or dioxane. The cpd. (I) is known as clenbuterol having broncholytic activities.
