Abstract: PURPOSE: A method of operating a set-top box having wire/wireless network is to couple main portions of a wireless set-top box and a wire set-top box to selectively control the set-top boxes, thereby providing broadcasting service and bidirectional multimedia service with one set-top box. CONSTITUTION: A controller disposed in a set-top box checks whether a user selects a wireless network or a wire network. The controller outputs a controlling signal for selecting a DBS(Direct Broadcast Satellite Systems) tuner using the wireless network or an FTTC(Fiber To The Curb) network interface using wire network. If a user selects the wireless network, the controlling portion applies a controlling signal to the DBS tuner, and receives a desired MPEG signal. The MPEG signal is processed at an ATM(asynchronous transmitting mode) processing portion according to an asynchronous transmitting mode. The ATM transmits input ATM cell in the form of an MPEG trans stream packet.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A locating notifying method using DBS(Direct Broadcasting Satellite) system and pager is provided to inform an opponent's location bi-directionally. CONSTITUTION: At the same time when a call service is transferred to a called local base station, the local base station location information is received and sent out to the transmitting base station where the call service was requested. The transmitting base station transmits to a DBS using a fixed format to generate an identification number of a subscriber of the call and a location information. If the subscriber's identification number is the identification number from the DBS, the location information is transferred into a fixed format, and the transferred information is displayed though a display unit. The location information is established within the MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) transport packet user defined boundary. The location information is displayed through a specific part of a television's monitor while watching the television.
