    Abstract: A biomarker gene of beta-arrestin 2 for confirming drug addiction and dependence is provided to diagnose drug addiction and dependence in the gene level by analyzing expression of a related gene. The biomarker gene of beta-arrestin 2 for confirming drug addiction and dependence has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:5 and is characterized by increase of its expression when a subject is addicted by a drug selected from methamphetamine, amphetamine, ecstasy and cocaine. A method for analyzing expression of beta-arrestin 2 gene comprises the steps of: extracting RNA from striatum, hippocampus, nucleus accumbens and cingulated cortex in the mesolimbic pathway of the drug addiction-induced brain, and reverse-transcribing the extracted RNA to prepare cDNA; PCR amplifying the cDNA as a template using a primer set of SEQ ID NO:1 and SEQ ID NO:2 or SEQ ID NO:3 and SEQ ID NO:4; and analyzing the expression of the amplified gene.
