Abstract: A socket connector (2) suitable for use in establishing interconnection to a plurality of closely spaced surface pad portions (108) of traces (106) on a circuit panel (100). This socket connector (2) is suitable for use with a high density single in-line memory module. The individual terminals (10) are edge stamped from a spring metal blank and inserted in closely spaced centerlines into cavities (50) in a housing (4). Each terminal (10) has a base (14) with a pair of cantilever beams (12, 12') extending upwardly from the base (14), each cantilever beam (12, 12') being curved at its upper end to form a shallow downwardly extending ramp edge (26, 26'). Insertion of a circuit panel (100) edgewise into the connector (2) biases the terminals (10) outwardly with the stresses primarily confined to the plane of the spring metal blank. The terminals (10) are inserted from above and positively retained within the housing (4). Low insertion forces, together with a wiping action between the terminals (10) and the surface pad portions (108) of traces (106) on the circuit panel (100) is achieved.

Abstract: A modular electrical connector assembly consisting of a plurality of components which can be assembled in a number of different configurations. Each connector consists of an outer body (100, 200) and an inner body (300, 400). The inner and outer bodies are separately and independently keyed and each mates with a corresponding inner or outer body in only one configuration. The inner body is keyed by providing distinct cross-sections for intermating posts (310) and cavities (410). The outer bodies (100, 200) are latched together by a plurality of collets (202) on one connector (200) which are held in engagement with a cylindrical ridge (130) on the other connector by a spring loaded shiftable sleeve (150). Keys (142) on one connector are received in keyslots (212), between adjacent collets (202) on the other connector. Conductors (30) in distinct and corresponding ordered arrays can be interconnected and the circuit patterns need not be changed in order to provide for connector modularity.

Abstract: During a cycle of the apparatus, a wire (W) is advanced along a feed path (P) by a lead length, is clamped by means of wire clamps (8 and 12) on first and second rotary wire carriers (6 and 10). When a lead (L) has been severed from the wire (W) by blades (4), the carriers (8 and 12) are swung in opposite directions to position the wire end (SW) in a first terminating station (14) and the lead end (SL) in a second terminating station (16). The first terminating station (14) has three wire terminating applicators (36, 38 and 40) spaced lengthwise of the path (P). Abstract: A multiple stroke hand tool (2) comprises a ram (34) slidably mounted to a support member (4, 6). A compact rotatable ratchet member (54) is connected to the ram (34) and pivotally mounted to the support member (4, 6) such that as a drive pawl (56) engages the ratchet member (54), it is rotated causing the ram (34) to move between an open position and a closed position. A resilient member (74) is attached to the ratchet member (54) and exerts a force on the ratchet member (54) opposing rotation thereof. A latching means (60), pivotally mounted to the support member (4, 6), cooperates with the ratchet member (54) to prevent unwanted backward rotation of the ratchet member (54). The latching means (60) disengages from the ratchet member (54) at the end of a cycle which in turn causes the drive pawl (56) to disengage from the ratchet member (54), allowing automatic return of the ram (34) to the open position. A manual override (130) is also provided such that the latching means (60) may be disengaged as required. A fast take-up (94) is also positioned on the hand tool (2) such that quick, easy, one-handed operation is effected.

Abstract: A high durability drawer connector (100) is capable of blind mating and has a receptacle connector (110) having a plurality of spring arm contact terminals (170, 170A, 170B) extending forwardly of a mating face (126), and a plug connector (10) having a like plurality of contact terminals (70, 70A, 70B) having contact portions (86, 86A, 86B) to engage the spring arm contacts (170, 170A, 170B) upon mating. Guide pins (38, 40) forwardly of the plug housing (20) enter alignment recesses (138, 140) of the receptacle housing (120) and align the plug connector (10) which is mounted to a drawer end panel (12) with at least one of the connectors (10, 110) being floatingly mounted. At a first unmated position the forward portions (188, 188A, 188B) of the receptacle's contacts enter plug housing passageways (30, 30A, 30B) and just engage the plug's contacts (70, 70A, 70B) under low insertion force. A camming bearing surface (60) on one of the plug's guide pins (40) bears against a cooperating surface (160) of the receptacle housing (120) and cams the plug connector (10) in a selected axially normal direction. The plug's contacts (70, 70A, 70B) then firmly engage the receptacle contact forward portions (188, 188A, 188B) from laterally thereof biasing them to achieve contact force, and the connectors (10, 110) are fully mated. An improved connector floating mounting means (14, 16A, 16B, 94A, 94B) is also provided which centers either the plug (10) or the receptacle (110) or both prior to mating, and can be used on standard drawer connectors requiring alignment.

Abstract: The assembly comprises a housing (2) having cavities (4) for receiving electrical terminals (6). Each terminal (6) has a resilient retention portion (10) having an opening (14) and a slot (12) communicating therewith. Abstract: A local area network cable assembly includes a flat cable (2), a shielded connector (148) and a cable to connector adapter having a body (150) and a ferrule (146). The cable has a plurality of signal conductors (11, 12, 21, 22) positioned within a common plane. Each conductor is surrounded by a foamed first insulating medium (13, 14, 23, 24) and the insulated conductors forming an associated pair surrounded by a core (15, 25) formed of an extruded second insulating medium having a higher dielectric constant.
