Abstract:
An electronic device may be provided with a display such as an organic light-emitting diode display. The display may include an array of display pixels formed on a polymer substrate layer. The polymer substrate layer may include an contiguous layer of polyimide that forms a substrate layer in additional structures such as a polymer film and a flexible printed circuit. A first transition region may be interposed between the display and the polymer film, and a second transition region may be interposed between the polymer film and the flexible printed circuit. Metal traces may be formed on the polymer film and on the flexible printed circuit. A display driver integrated circuit may be mounted to the traces on the polymer film. The polymer film may form a U-shaped bend. The flexible printed circuit may be coupled to a printed circuit board in the device using hot bar solder connections.
Abstract:
An electronic device may be provided with a conductive housing. An antenna window structure may be formed in an opening in the housing. The antenna window structure may have an antenna support structure that is attached to the conductive housing and that supports antenna structures. An antenna window cap may be mounted in the opening and attached to the antenna support structure with liquid adhesive. Alignment structures may be provided in the antenna support structure. An antenna support plate with mating alignment structures may be used in attaching the antenna structures to the antenna support structures. Metal shielding structures may be used to provide electromagnetic shielding. A shielding wall may be formed from a sheet metal structure supported by a plastic support structure. A flexible metal shielding foil layer may be welded to the shielding wall using a sacrificial plate.
Abstract:
A removable component for use with an earphone is disclosed. As an example, the removable component can be an ear tip. According to one aspect, an improved ear tip can be provided for use with a headphone. The ear tip is suitable for in-ear operation and can have a cosmetic deformable outer member. The deformable outer member can enable the ear tip to readily conform to a user's ear. The ear tip can also include an inner member to structurally support the outer member and to facilitate attachment to a headphone. Methods for forming such ear tips are also disclosed.
Abstract:
An electronic device is provided with a display such as a liquid crystal display mounted in an electronic device housing. The display has display layers such as a layer of liquid crystal material, a color filter layer, a thin-film transistor layer, and polarizer layers. The display also has backlight structures and a display cover layer. Display mounting structures are formed from a metal member that also serves as a structural midplate within the electronic device housing. Plastic reflector structures such as white plastic and plastic trim structures are molded onto the midplate. The plastic reflector structures form a rectangular recess that receives the light guide plate. The midplate has bent wall portions that form a rectangular recess that receives the display layers. The trim structures define a rectangular recess that receives the display cover layer. Protruding portions with openings attach the midplate to the housing.
Abstract:
This is directed to systems and methods for providing inputs to an electronic device with a button assembly. In some embodiments, a button assembly may include a button having distinguishable regions, limbs, and a set of switches positioned adjacent the button, where at least one of the switches is activated when one of the regions is actuated. In some embodiments, a button assembly may span a support member of a housing, and may be at least partially secured in an opening of the housing by bracket. In these embodiments, the button assembly may be operative to rotate about an axis in response to a user interaction event to activate a switch.
Abstract:
An optical module for a head-mounted device is configured to present content to a user. The optical module includes an optical module housing assembly, a display assembly, and an eye camera. The optical module housing assembly has a first end and a second end. The lens is connected to the optical module housing assembly and positioned at the first end of the optical module housing assembly. The display assembly is connected to the optical module housing assembly and is positioned at the second end of the optical module housing assembly. The display assembly is configured to cause the content to be displayed to the user through the lens. The eye camera is connected to the optical module housing assembly and is positioned at the second end of the optical module housing assembly. The eye camera is configured to obtain images through the lens.

Abstract:
A head-mounted device includes a first device portion and a second device portion. A first coupler portion of the first device portion is connectable to a second coupler portion of the second device portion to define a connected position in which the first device portion is connected to the second device portion and a disconnected position in which the first device portion is disconnected from the second device portion. A second adjuster portion of the second device portion causes a first adjuster portion of the first device portion to move a first optical module and a second optical module in response to movement of the first device portion and the second device portion from the disconnected position to the connected position.
