    Abstract: The invention comprises water-soluble dyes of the phthalocyanine-azo series having the formula:- where Z is a phthalocyanine radical attached via sulphonyl, carbonyl or triazinyl group, R is hydrogen or alkyl, A is alkylene or phenylene which may be substituted, E is the divalent radical of an enol capable of coupling, B is the divalent radical of a diazo component of the benzene series, X is a chlorine or bromine atom, n is a whole number not greater than 4 and wherein the dye molecule contains at least one water-solubilising group. The enol radicals may be derived from arylpyrazolones, acetoacetic acid amides or benzoylacetic acid amides. The dyes are made by reacting phthalacyanine sulphohalide, carboxylic acid halide or halotriazine derivative with an aminoazo compound of the formula:- or with an enol of the formula:- to form a compound of the formula and coupling the latter with a diazotised amine of the formula:- in both cases the reactants being such that the final dye contains at least one water-solubilising group. Examples are given. The dyestuffs dye and print textile materials of cellulose in conjunction with a treatment with an acid-binding agent and a heat treatment, and also dye and print textile materials of wool, silk and linear polyamides and leather. Green shades are obtained.

    Abstract: 910,121. Basic heterocyclic azo dyes. BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA-FABRIK A.G. Oct. 28, 1960 [Oct. 29, 1959], No. 37067/60. Addition to 885,046. Class 2(4). The invention comprises dyes of formula where R 1 and R 2 are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl or members of a non- aromatic ring, R 3 and R 4 are alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl, Ar is o or p-phenylene or -naphthalene or the divalent residue of 4,4 1 - azobenzene, Z is an anion equivalent and W is -N(Q)- or -N 1 (R 7 ) 2 Z where Q is acyl or sulphonyl, negatively substituted aryl, triazinyl (which may be substituted) or CO-NH-P or where P is an aryl residue and R 7 is alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl, the products being free from acid dissociating groups. The dyes may be made by reacting a dye of the above formula in which W is NH (see the parent Specification) with an acylating, sulphonylating, alkylating, cycloalkylating or aralkylating agent, a negatively substituted aryl halide, a halotriazine or arylisocyanate or a dye of formula where X is halogen, alkoxy, alkylmercapto or aryl- or alkyl-sulphonic acid ester. Representative of specified agents indicated for reaction with the starting dye are acetic anhydride, #-chloropropionyl chloride, dimethylcarbamic acid chloride, benzoyl chloride, chloroformic acid ethyl ester, phenyl isocyanate, methylbenzene- and methane-sulphonic acid chlorides, diethylsulphanuric acid chloride, methyl chloride, cyclohexyl bromide, phenacyl chloride, diethyl sulphate, methylbenzenesulphonic acid-(2-chloroethyl) ester, 2,4-dinitro-1-fluorobenzene, 3-nitro-4- chlorbenzene sulphonic acid dimethylamide and 2-phenyl-4,6-dichlor-1,3,5-triazine. Reaction is effected in water or aqueous-organic liquid mixtures and in the presence of acidbinding agents. Representative of specified anions are fluoride, chloride, iodide; bisulphate, toluene sulphonate, trichloracetate, oxalate, nitrate perchlorate and tetrachlorzincate. Preferred dyes are of formula where R 8 is Me or Et, R 9 and R 10 are H, C1, Me, Et, OMe or OEt, Y is an anion and W as above where Q is acetyl, chloracetyl, trichloracetyl, #-chlorpropionyl, benzoyl, 4-chlorbenzoyl, benzene-sulphonyl, 4- chlorbenzenesulphonyl, o and p-toluenesulphonyl, 2,4-dinitrophenyl, 4,6-dichlor-1,3,5- triazinyl-(2)-, -CONH Ph or and R 7 is Me or Et. The dyes colour textile materials of wool, silk, polyamides, polyurethanes, cellulose, cellulose esters, polyesters, polyacrylonitriles and leather. Colouring may be effected by dyebaths, padding solutions, printing pastes or spin-dyeing. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in colouring cotton, wool, cellulose acetate and polyacrylonitriles in red and orange shades.     Abstract: The invention comprises complex metal dyes which contain one atom of chromium bound to two molecules of different metallizable monoazo dyes one of which is of formula:- where X is a metallizable substituent and Z is H, Hlg, or a sulphonamide, alkoxy or carboalkoxyamino radical and A may be substituted with groups such as sulphonamide and dialkyl amide, alkoxy and/or alkyl groups but is free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups (apart from X) and of which the other dye is free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups except in #s-position to the azo group. The dyes are made by treating a 1, 1-chromium complex of a dye of the above formula with an equimolar quantity of the second dye. The second dye may contain substituents such as halogen, sulphone, alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, acylamino and sulphonamido groups. The dyes are used especially on nitrogenous textile materials, e.g. leather, synthetic polyamides and polyurethanes and wool which they dye in blue, grey, black, brown and green shades from a neutral to weak acid bath. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and c their use in colouring processes. Specifications 745,479 and 766,554 are referred to.
