Abstract: Process for the preparation of N-hydroxypyrazoles of the general formula I in which R , R and R can be identical or different and can denote hydrogen or halogen, which is characterised in that pyrazoles of the general formula II in which the radicals R , R and R have the meaning given in formula I, are reacted with an aliphatic or aromatic peroxocarboxylic acid, preferably in the presence of 0 to 15 mol of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide or carbonate, such that the reaction temperature is between -5 DEG C and 60 DEG C. The reaction can be carried out in water as the solvent or in a 2-phase system composed of water and an only poorly water-miscible inert organic solvent, optionally in the presence of a suitable phase transfer catalyst. The peroxocarboxylic acid can be prepared before the reaction in a reaction mixture of H2O2, carboxylic acid halide or a carboxylic acid anhydride or employed in the form of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt.

Abstract: Process for the preparation of 4-chloropyrazoles of the general formula I in which R to R , independently of one another, denote hydrogen or a radical which is inert under the reaction conditions, by reacting pyrazoles of the general formula II in which R to R have the abovementioned meanings, with 0.95 to 10 equivalents of hypochlorous acid or its salts, essentially in the absence of a carboxylic acid.
