Abstract: A superabsorbing foam containing synthetic fibers and/or natural fibers selected from:apple, orange, tomato, wheat fibers and/or oat fibers is new. An Independent claim is included for preparation of foam of increased wet strength by foaming a crosslinkable aqueous mixture containing at least 50 mole% neutralized acid groups containing monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, or at least one basic polymer crosslinker, superabsorbing synthetic fibers and/or natural fibers selected from the above group and at least one surfactant, polymerization of the monomers or the basic polymer in the mixture to be foamed, and formation of a foamed hydrogel.

Abstract: Water-absorbent, crosslinked, acid group-containing polymers in the form of mainly open-cell foam contain compounds with anhydride groups, compounds with acid groups, cyclodextrins, bactericides and surfactants. Water-absorbent, crosslinked, acid group-containing polymers in the form of mainly open-cell foam contain agents which reduce the production of odor on contact with body fluids, namely: (a) compounds with anhydride groups; (b) compounds with acid groups; (c) cyclodextrins; (d) bactericides; and surfactants with an HLB value of less than 12.
