    Abstract: In the present invention, there is disclosed a process for producing ammonium salts of 3-isopropyl-2,1,3-benzothiadiazin-4-one-2,2-dioxide of the general formula I, in which Re1 through Re4 represent independently on each other a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms or an hydroxyalkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, wherein the preparation process is characterized in that bentazone of the general formula IIa is brought into reaction with an amine of the general formula IIIa or with an ammonium salt of the general formula IIIb in an organic water-immiscible solvent being selected from a group comprising alkanes containing 5 to 8 carbon atoms and halo alkanes having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, whereupon the salt of the general formula I is then removed from water.
