    Abstract: Anthraquinone dyes are made by reacting an anthraquinone dyestuff which consists of two 1 - amino - 4 - arylaminoanthraquinone - 2 - sulphonic acid radicals joined with each other at the para carbon atoms of the aryl radicals either directly or by way of a bridge member either as free acid or as a salt with at least one organic nitrogen-containing base. The anthraquinone nuclei may be substituted (but not symmetrically) by e.g. halogen or acylamino, and the arylene radicals may contain alkyl or alkoxy groups. Bridge members specified are -O-, -S-, -SO-, -SO2-, -CO-, -NH-, alkylene, substituted alkylene (e.g. benzylidene) or a carbon atom which is also a member of an alicyclic ring. Reaction may take place in aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic solution. In examples: (1) the product from 2 mols. 1 - amino - 4 - bromanthraquinone - 2 - sulphonic acid and 1 mol. bis-(p-aminophenyl)-methane is reacted with o-cyclohexylcyclohexylamine, aniline, benzylamine, dimethylaniline, quinoline, bis-(p-dimethylaminocyclohexyl) - methane, bis - (p - aminocyclohexyl)-methane benzidine, bis-(p-monomethylaminocyclohexyl)-methane, the bis-N-phenyl-carbamic ester of N,N1-bis-(hydroxyethyl)-piperazine, omega-ethylaminocaproic acid butyl ester, or the double carbamic ester from 1 mol. naphthylene-1,5-diisocyanate and 2 mols. N,N-dipropylethanolamine; (2) bis-(p-amino-cyclohexyl)-methane is reacted with the condensation product of 1-amino-4-bromanthraquinone 2-sulphonic acid and 1,1-bis-(p-aminophenyl)-cyclohexane, 2,2 - bis - (p - aminophenyl) - propane, bis - (p - aminophenyl) - ether or thioether, bis - (p - aminophenyl) - sulphoxide, dianisidine, or benzidine. Dyeing examples using polyamide fibres and fabric are given.
