Abstract: Disclosed are: a grafted rubber containing polybutadiene; a process for manufacturing the said rubber by mixing together an appropriate rubber latex and an emulsified mixture of alpha -tocopherol and a thiodipropionic acid ester; and a moulding material which is modified to give it impact-resistance and resistance to heat-ageing and is based on a mixture of a hard thermoplastic material, in particular of the SAN type, and a grafted rubber containing polybutadiene, alpha -tocopherol and a thiodipropionic acid ester.

Abstract: Thermoplastic moulding materials (I) contain (A) 4.9-95 wt% of a graft copolymer of (a1) 30-90 wt% rubber-elastic graft base with a Tg of below 0 degrees C and a mean particle size (d50) of 30-1000 nm, based on (a11) 50-99.8 wt% (1-8C alkyl) acrylates and/or dienes, (a12) 0-5 wt% polyfunctional crosslinking monomers, (a13) 0-49.8 wt% other unsatd comonomers, and (a14) 0.1-10 wt% hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylates and/or unsatd. monomers with basic gps, or (a15) 0.1-10 wt% monomers (a23) (see below), and (a2) 10-70 wt% of a grafted shell with a Tg of above 25 degrees C, based on (a21) 0-99.9 wt% vinylaromatic monomer, (a22) 0-99.9 wt% polar unsatd monomer(s), (a23) 0.1-20 wt% unsatd monomer(s) with acid gps, or (a24) 0.1-20 wt% monomers (a14), (B) 4.9-95 wt% of a polymer with a Tg above 25 degrees C, (C) 0.1-10 wt% cpds of multivalent metals, and (D) 0-40 wt% conventional additives, processing aids etc, with the proviso that monomers (a23) are in the shell if (a14) is in the core, and (a24) are in the shell if (a15) is in the core. Also claimed are moulded prods contg. (I) as the essential component. Pref. graft base (a1) contains (a11) 85-99.8 wt.% (1-8C alkyl) acrylate, (a13) 0.1-5 wt.% polyfunctional crosslinker (sic) and (a14) 0.1-10 wt.% hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate etc., or (a11) 50-99.8 wt.% diene, (a12) 0-49.9 wt.% other unsatd. comonomer(s) (sic) and (a14) 0.1-10 wt.% hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate etc.
