Abstract: Disazo dyes f formula (I) are new. In the formula, Z1 to Z4 are H, 1-4c alkl or alkoxy, NO2, Cl, Br,CN, 1-4C alkyl sulphonyl, opt. substd. carbamoyl or sulphonoyl, carboxylic ester or CF3, K is a gp. of formula (II) or (III); Y and R1 are H, 1-2C alkyl or alkoxy, Cl or Br; R2 is as R1 or NHCOR7, NHSOR2R7, NHCOOR7 or NHCONHR7; R3 is opt. substd. 3-10C alkenyl or alkinyl, phenyl-ethyl or -propyl, A1OCO-NHR7, A1OCOO-A2Q1, or A1OCO-A2Q2, R4 and R6 are as R3, 1-6C alkyl or opt. substd. 2-4C alkyl, cyclohexyl or benzyl; R5 is NHSO2R9, NHCOOR9, NHCONHR9, NHCOCH2Cl, or similar gp.; R7 is 1-8C alkyl opt. substd. with Cl, Br, CN, OMe, OEt, phenoxy or phenyl, or is 2-4C alkenyl or alkinyl; R9 is substd. 2-4C alkyl; A1 is 2-8C alkylene opt. interrupted by O; A2 is as A1 or CH2; Q1 is Cl, Br, 1-4C alkoxy, phenoxy or phenyl; and Q2 is e.g. phenyl or phenoxy opt. substd. with R1. Used as dispersion dyes for cellulosic fibres, esp. cotton/polyester blends, giving navy blue to black shades.

Abstract: The tris-azo dyes of formula (I) in the free acid from: (where A is the radical of an aromatic diazotisable component; B is the radical of an aromatic hydroxylated and/or aminated coupling component; n = 1 or 2; one X is OH and the other is NH2; Z is a radical of formula (II): in which Y is -SO2-NR; R is H, opt. substd.alkyl, or benzyl; R1 is H, Cl, Br, 1-4C alkyl, CN, COOH, MeO, EtO or NO2; R2 is H, Cl or 1-4C alkyl; R3 is H, Cl, Br, 1-4C alkyl, CN, MeO, EtOH, OH, COOH, NO2 or sulpho; R4 is H, Cl or Br; the azo gps. linked to Z are not in posn. 4:41 when both benzene rings are unsubstd. or monosubstd.), are used as green-black dyes for leather and also for natural or synthetic fibres contg. OH gps. e.g., cellulose, cotton, regenerated cellulose, wool, silk, nylon, and paper.
