Abstract: The use of azo dyes of formula (I) for transfer printing is new. In (I), R is H or methyl; R1 is H or 1-4C alkyl and R2 is 1-4C alkyl. Also new are auxiliary carriers for transfer printing which contain (I). (I) are esp. useful for polyester, giving prints of very good fastness to light and wet treatments. In an example, a paper was flexographically printed with an ink comprising 20 pts. (I; R is H; R1 and R2 both methyl); 5 pts. ethylcellulose, 70 pts. ethanol, 20 pts. ethyl acetate and 5 pts. ethyl glycol, then dried. The printed side of the paper was placed on a polyester material and run through a calander for 30 sec. at 210 deg. C. The dye was transferred, giving a reddish-blue print on a white background.

Abstract: New monoazo dyes are of formula (I). In (I) D is the gp. of a diazo component; R1 is H, Cl, Br, 1-2C alkyl or alkoxy; R2 is as R1, 1-4C alkyl-sulphonyl amino, -alkanoyl amino or -alkoxycarbonyl amino, phenyl sulphoxyl amino or benzoylamino; A1 is a substd. aliphatic or araliphatic gp.; A2 is 2-6C alkylene opt. interrupted by O; A3 is 2-4C alkylene; A4 is 1-4C alkyl; n is 1, 2 or 3. Used as dispersion dyes for hydrophobic fibres, e.g. cellulose acetates, polyamides, and esp. polyesters, and in some cases for use in the process claimed in DT1811796. Good fastness to light, wet treatments and thermofixing is achieved.

Used as dispersion dyes for cellulosic fibres, esp. cotton/polyester blends, giving navy blue to black shades.

Abstract: Protection of dispersion dyestuffs (I), which are sensitive to redn., from redn. dyring dyeing and/or printing is effected by adding haloquinone (derivs.) (II) to the dyebath or printing ink. (II) pref. have the formula (IIa). In (IIa) X is F, Cl or Br, Y is F, Cl, Br, OH or CN, Chloranil is esp. suitable. (I) are useful for dyeing and printing cellulose acetate, polyamide and esp. polyester fibres and their mixts. with cellulose and wool. (II) are widely applicable and compatible with dyeing media.
