Abstract: 3-Dimethylaminopropyl formamide (I) is prepd. by keeping a stoichiometric mixt. of Me formate and 3-dimethyl aminopropylamine at 40-95 (55-75) degrees C for 5-10 (6-8) hrs., and then freeing from MeOH in a device which allows quick (esp. thin-film) evaporation, at surface temp. 130-140 degrees C after duration of 0.5-5 (1-3) min. (I) is obtd. in near quantitative yields.
