    Abstract: A process for the preparation of zeolites of the ZSM-5 structural type from a mixture of SiO2 and Al(OH)3 by hydrothermal crystallization in an aqueous amine solution, in the absence of alkali, at from 100 DEG to 200 DEG C., wherein the crystallization is carried out in the presence of a triamine, tetraamine and/or higher amine and the reaction mixture is formulated to have an SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio defined by an equation which involves the chain length and number of amine groups of the amine employed, as well as to have certain molar ratios of H2O/amine and amine/Al2O3, and the use of these zeolites as catalysts for the conversion of alcohols and/or dialkyl ethers to olefins and/or aromatics.

    Abstract: A process for the manufacture of a bifunctional catalyst for the conversion of hydrocarbons, which contains a crystalline aluminosilicate of the type of the Y-zeolites as the acidic component and a noble metal as the hydrogenation component. The process constitutes a technologically simple way of manufacturing bifunctional zeolite catalysts which have at least the same activity and the same life as the catalysts manufactured by conventional methods, coupled with great heat stability and exhibit activity in the presence of H2O, H2S and NH3 at relatively high temperatures.

    Abstract: Catalysts for ethylene oxide prepn. from ethylene and O2 comprise Ag and alkali metals or their cpds. deposited on a support. The catalysts contain (a) 0.1-2 atom % Na and (b) either 0.05-0.35 atom % K, 0.003-0.25 atom % Rb, 0.0005-0.2 atom % Cs or a corresp. amt. of a mixt. thereof. All percentages are based on the Ag content. The Ag content is pref. 2-12 (esp. 5-10) wt.% based on the wt. of the catalyst. The catalysts are pref. prepd. by impregnating the support with an aq. soln. of an Ag complex salt (e.g. an Ag-amine carboxylate) and suitable alkali metal cpds. (e.g. hydroxides), steaming the resulting composite until the Ag cpd. decomposes, and calcining the product at 100-400 degrees C to constant wt. Other standard methods can also be used. The catalysts have higher activity and selectivity than conventional Ag catalysts promoted with alkali(ne earth) metals, and/or have a longer life.

    Abstract: Synthesis of zeolites of gps. A, X, P and Y involves hydrothermal treatment of mixts. contg. SiO2/Al2O3 and alkali and/or alkaline earth components and water in the required molar ratios, sepn. of the crystals from the mother liquor and re-use of this after addn. of reaction components. The novelty is that, during hydrothermal treatment, water is removed from the mother liquor in such amts. that this can be completely re-used. Water (vapour) can be removed by applying a vacuum, flash evapn. or by introducing a hot gas (e.g. air). E.g. in the prodn. of zeolite X, with removal of part of the water during crystallisation, the mother liquor was re-used several times. A well-crystallised prod. was obtd. in each case. Removal of water does not impair the quality of the prod. but reduces the crystallisation time, reduces the vol. to be filtered and allows complete re-use of the mother liquor, avoiding environmental pollution or costly processing.
