Abstract: The invention concerns a method of hydrogenating aromatic compounds in which at least one amino group is bonded to an aromatic nucleus, the catalyst containing ruthenium and optionally at least one metal of the I, VII- or VIII subsidiary group in an amount of between 0.01 and 30 wt.% relative to the total weight of the catalyst, applied to a carrier. The carrier has an average pore diameter of at least 0.1 mu m and a surface area of at most 15 m /g.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of aromatic aryl chloroformates of the general formula I (I) in which Ar denotes an aryl radical optionally mono- to penta-substituted by C1-C20-alkyl, C2-C20-alkenyl, C3-C8-alkyl-cycloalkyl, C1-C20-haloalkyl, C1-C20-alkoxy, C1-C20-alkylthio, halo, cyano, C2-C20-alkylcarbonyloxy, C3-C20-carboalkoxy, formyl, C2-C20-dialkylamino, aryl, aryloxy, arylthio, aroyl, C7-C20-aralkyl, C7-C20-aralkoxy, arylsulfonyl and/or C7-C20-aralkylthio and/or optionally mono- or di-substituted by chloroformyl and/or nitro, from phosgene and phenols of the general formula II Ar-OH(II), in which Ar has the meanings stated above and optionally carries one or two hydroxy groups, wherein the reaction is carried out at a temperature of from 60 DEG to 180 DEG C. in the presence of an organic phosphorus compound of the general formula III (III) in which at least one of the radicals R1, R2, and R3 stands, irrespective of the others, for -NR5R6 or -O-R7 and R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7 independently denote C1-C20-alkyl, C2-C20-alkenyl, halo, aryl, or C7-C20-aralkyl and R1 and R2, R1 and R3, R2 and R3, and R5 and R6 each denote a saturated or unsaturated C2-C5-alkylene chain, X denotes hydroxy, aryloxy, halo, or an inorganic or organic acid anion, R4 denotes hydrogen or C1-C20-alkyl or halo when X stands for halo, aryloxy, or aralkoxy, n is equal to 0 or 1, and R4 and X can together denote oxygen or sulfur.
