Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly display various kinds of signals for the constitution in which plural display elements are commonly wired. SOLUTION: The picture display device is provided with row wiring, plural column wiring, a modulation circuit and plural display elements. The plural display elements are commonly connected to the row wiring. Each of the plural column wiring is connected to each of the respective plural display elements and the modulation circuit supplies modulated signals to the column wiring. The circuit has a pulse width modulation circuit 8, which generates pulse signals having time widths in accordance with the gradation of the signals to be displayed and a potential setting circuit 9 which sets the potentials of the pulse signals in accordance with the kinds of the signals to be displayed.

SOLUTION: In this device for evacuating image display panels (1005-1007) including a multi-electron source composed of multiple cold-cathode elements, while a vacuum pump 2001 performs a evacuation of the image display panels, a measurement part 2002 measures a drive characteristic of a predetermined cold-cathode element within the image display panels. A control part 2003 determines whether or not prescribed drive characteristics are obtained based on the measurement result of the measurement part 2002, and when it is determined that prescribed drive characteristics are obtained, the evacuation by the vacuum pump 2001 is terminated.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make automatically discriminable individual area, to which a picture display device is connected, while constituting a multiscreen display device, and to improve the operability of the device. SOLUTION: The picture display device is constituted as a multiscreen display device by coupling plural picture display devices. Video signals received by receiving sections 2001a to 2001c are supplied to a display control section 2005 through a decoder 2004. Connecting sections 2002 are connecting sections, which are used to make connections to other picture display devices so as to constitute a multiscreen display device arranged in the four sides of the display device. A judging section 2003 judges the portion which the picture device occupies in the multiscreen display device based on which connecting section among the sections 2002 is connected to other picture display device and on the connection constitution of the multiscreen display device stored in a storing section 2013. The section 2005 conducts the sampling of the video signals so that the portion judged by the section 2003 is magnified and displayed on a display panel 2008.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compensable dispersion of an effective voltage due to wiring resistance, to reduce a reactive power not contributing to an image display and to reduce the power consumption as a whole device by applying a voltage with a value considering the wiring resistance when the voltage is applied to display elements connected in matrix. SOLUTION: A control current source 10 controls a current outputted based on pulse width modulation signals PW1-PWN. The pulse width modulation signals PW1-PWN supplied from a pulse width modulation circuit 8 are inverted in polarity by an inverter to be supplied to an FET switch. The FET switch is turned on while the pulse width modulation signals PW1-PWN are 'L' to connect respective column wiring to ground potential. Further, the control current source 10 stops the supply of the current synchronized with that. Thus, the control current source 10 supplies the current to a display panel 1 while the pulse width modulation signals PW1-PWN are 'H', and does not supply the current to the display panel 1 while the signals are 'L'.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the distribution of the light emitting luminance of a display panel and to uniformize luminance by varying the appearing order of pulses with plural types of time margins in a column driving means. SOLUTION: A modulation signal generation part 480 generates pulses to 480 column direction wirings X1 from X480 at specified timing. Length obtained by dividing a period 1H when a prescribed row direction wiring is selected into eight wirings is set to be a basic pulse period t0. A pulse period corresponding to the respective bits of picture data shown by eight gradations, namely, three bits is set. A driving signal is applied in the pulse period corresponding to the bit whose value is '1'. Namely, the pulse period corresponding to the bit whose value is '1' is turned on. The generation periods of the pulses corresponding to the respective bits are dispersed for the respective column direction wirings. Thus, the luminance irregularity of a picture is reduced by dispersing the position of the pulses in the period 1H when the prescribed row direction wiring is selected.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a reactive current quantity flowing in a non-driving element so as to reduce reactive power when an electron source is driven. SOLUTION: When an electron source, in which a plurality of cold cathode elements are wired on a matrix by means of a plurality longitudinal wire and a plurality of transverse wires, is driven, a correction quantity computing circuit 128 decides an impression time of a predetermined voltage on the basis of image data of a line to be displayed. In display of this display line, a scan signal generating circuit 129 impresses a driving voltage of -Vth to the longitudinal wires matching the display line, while a modulation signal voltage converting circuit 127 impresses a modulation signal with a wave height value of +Vth based on the image data of the display line to the respective transverse wires. In this process, the scan signal generating circuit 129 impresses a voltage of +Vth to the longitudinal wires unselected during the impression time decided by means of the correction quantity computing circuit 128.

An element train group of a surface conduction type electron emission elements 1005 is driven one by one line from an input end of one side of its line by the scan signal driving part 1003 or 1004 based on the inputted scan control signal. A signal based on the inputted data signal is supplied by the data signal driving part 1002 to a grid 13 for controlling an electron beam emitted from the element 1005.
